NEIL WARNOCK: "I WOULD NOT WANT ANY OTHER DEFENDER"

Sol Bamba has been brilliant for the Bluebirds since joining on a free transfer in October

Neil Warnock insists he wouldn't want any other defender in Sol Bamba's place, after witnessing the new signing make a stunning start to his Cardiff City career.

Bamba, 31, had been Leeds United captain before cancelling his contract with the Whites and later joining Warnock's Bluebirds revolution.

He smashed in a debut goal against Bristol City and was superb again last weekend, albeit in a losing cause against Aston Villa.

"I wouldn't want anyone else. I don't think there's anyone better," Warnock told the BBC .

"Like top players, he's got all the attributes. Fortunately for us, we've got him at the right time. For me anyway I'm quite happy."

Bamba's partnership with Sean Morrison has been one of the many positives at Cardiff since Warnock took over.

Another free transfer, Junior Hoilett, has flourished.

But Warnock believes Bamba can continue to improve. The Ivory Coast international could be playing at an even higher level judging on current form, according to his boss.

That's despite Bamba winning 44 caps for his country and featured in the top division in Scotland, Italy and Turkey.

Sol Bamba battles with Ayoze Perez
"He's a good lad, but should be playing at the top level really," Warnock added.

"I wouldn't say he's wasted his career, but he's been allowed to get away with things that he shouldn't be allowed to."

He is good to be fair. Won't be here next season though.

Why not? He's on a 2 year contract and wants to play for Warnock.

He's in the shop window, and we won't turn down a decent offer whilst we've got capable cover. Every chance of him going to PL at season end.

I hope he stays, and I know it's no guarantee he will go, but he's going to be standing out in the same way Marshall did.
