Connolly to replace Lee Peltier who is suspended?

Neil Warnock: "We are a bit short, I’ll be glad to get tomorrow out the way!

Jazz Richards is training again, he’s had one thing after another.

Hopefully next week we’ll have him and Lee. Matt Connolly did well at Forest, though this will be a bigger test."

Matthew Connolly: Expected to start at full-back

Matthew Connolly is set to return for Cardiff's Sky Bet Championship game at home to second-placed Brighton.

Connolly, normally a centre-half, should deputise at right-back with Lee Peltier serving a one-match ban following his red card at Aston Villa last weekend.

Peltier's natural replacement, Jazz Richards, is still out with a foot injury which has kept him sidelined for two months, but the Wales full-back is expected to be available next week.

Bruno Manga will again be absent from the matchday squad with Bluebirds boss Neil Warnock keen to move on the Gabon defender in the January transfer window.

Brighton

Full name: Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club
Nickname(s): The Seagulls, The Albion
Founded: 24 June 1901; 115 years ago
Ground: The Amex
Capacity: 30,750
Chairman: Tony Bloom
Manager: Chris Hughton
League: Championship

Brighton and Hove Albion Football Club is an English football club based in the coastal city of Brighton & Hove, East Sussex. It is often referred to just as Brighton. They currently play in the Football League Championship, the second tier of the English football league system, hosting games at the 30,750-capacity Falmer Stadium, known for commercial purposes as the American Express Community Stadium, or simply the Amex.

The team is nicknamed the "Seagulls" or "Albion". The team has historically played in blue and white stripes, though this changed to all white briefly in the 1970s and again to plain blue during the club's most successful spell in the 1980s. Crystal Palace is considered the club's main rival, although the grounds are 40 miles apart.

Founded in 1901, Brighton played their early professional football in the Southern League before being elected to the Football League in 1920. The club enjoyed greatest prominence between 1979 and 1983 when they played in the First Division and reached the 1983 FA Cup Final, losing to Manchester United after a replay. They were relegated from the top division in the same season. Mismanagement brought Brighton close to relegation from the Football League to the Conference which they narrowly avoided in 1997 and 1998. A boardroom takeover saved Brighton from liquidation, and following successive promotions they returned to the second tier of English football in 2002 and have played in the second and third tiers ever since.

Trollope is set to be back at Cardiff City Stadiuum this weekend as Brighton No.2 - and he's been tipped to handle return

By Chris Wathan

Wednesday 30th November 2016

Paul Trollope will this weekend return to the club that sacked him – and has been backed to take it all in his stride.

Trollope was axed as Cardiff City boss two months ago having overseen a concerning slide towards the relegation places , shown the door after 11 league games.

It was a disappointing spell as top man at Cardiff City Stadium having been promoted to replace Russell Slade on the back on impressive work as head coach and No.2 with Wales during their sensational Euro 2016 run.

But he has an early chance to get one over on his former club on Saturday when he returns to South Wales for the Bluebirds’ clash with Brighton having been snapped up by pal Chris Hughton as his assistant.

Trollope had already worked with Hughton at Birmingham and Norwich and has paired up with the former Newcastle boss at the Seagulls as they aim for promotion from the Championship.

Brighton’s form is in stark contrast to the club he left behind, Cardiff still aiming to escape the relegation places under replacement Neil Warnock.

But Lennie Lawrence, who left the Bluebirds along with Trollope having been part of his backroom team, says Trollope won’t be perturbed by having to face his former employers come Saturday’s contest.

“Paul spent a very productive first 15 months at Cardiff under Russell Slade, which went very well really. They finished eighth last season and his reputation grew to such an extent that he was made the national coach of Wales as well,” Lawrence told the Brighton Argus .

“He had to give that up when he took the manager’s position at Cardiff, which is sad really. Unfortunately, things didn’t work out that well at Cardiff.

“Three months is a very short period of time but that’s the name of the game these days. He’s just got to go there, get his head down and get on with it.

“He’s got nothing to say. He did his best, end of story. That’s it. He’ll deal with that I’m sure.”

A look ahead to the Bluebirds’ clash with Brighton

By Dan Bevan

Wednesday 30th November 2016

This Saturday marks the first game in arguably the most important month of the season for Cardiff city.

November was a very tricky month in which the Bluebirds only took three points from a possible 12 – albeit in a month where they played Newcastle, Aston Villa and Huddersfield.

Cardiff start and end December with fixtures against Brighton who recently appointed former Cardiff head coach Paul Trollope to their vacant assistant manager’s position.

But the last time the two sides met Cardiff game out 4-1 winners in arguably the best performance in the Russell Slade era.

Brighton currently sit second in the Championship, just two points behind leaders Newcastle and are now on a 12-game unbeaten run in the league. Chris Hughton’s side will be by far the hardest test of the month for Cardiff.

In between the two Brighton matches Cardiff face Ipswich, Wolves, Barnsley and Brentford. Four games where Cardiff can pick points.

But before we can look towards these games we need to avoid defeat against Brighton. Failure to win against the Seagulls would leave Cardiff with three defeats in their last four games.

That’s nothing in comparison to the seven points Cardiff earned in their first three games since new manager Neil Warnock’s arrival.

December is so important because if Cardiff are still in the relegation zone at Christmas then it would make recruiting in January even harder.

After the defeat to Aston Villa Neil Warnock said that fans shouldn’t expect results to get better until he can get the players he wants in January.

This won’t give fans huge confidence, it may even be true but Cardiff must ensure they take points at home, regardless of the opposition – That doesn’t change this weekend against Brighton.

2-1 City. NW will have worked on closing out the small mistakes we make in midfield and defence to concede. Duffy will try too hard, concede an OG and then get sent off again. NW has tapped Trolls phone and internet and will ruin his tactical suggestions. FIFA will fine Brighton for wearing rainbow laces as a political statement. The ghost of Robin Friday will sprint down Sloper Road and shit in Chris Hughton's suitbag. Duffy subsequently reported as missing and last sighted wearing a feather boa and arseless leather chaps near Brighton Pier before shagging Zoe Ball up the coalhole, much to Fatboy Slim's chagrin.

Cardiff City Vs Brighton and Hove Albion: Match Preview

By Jamie Kemble

December 1, 2016

Cardiff City Vs Brighton and Hove Albion: Match Preview
Date and Time: Saturday 3rd December (15.00)

Venue: Cardiff City Stadium

Referee: Roger East

Cardiff City host high-flyers Brighton and Hove Albion as they look to bounce back from defeat against Aston Villa last time out.

The Bluebirds welcome second placed Brighton and Hove Albion to the Cardiff City Stadium as they look to end a disappointing run of three defeats in four games.

Paul Trollope returns to the Cardiff City Stadium this weekend after being appointing on the Brighton back-room staff last week – he previously worked with Chris Hughton on two occasions. Trollope was sacked as Cardiff City boss in October after a poor start to the season.

Cardiff were beaten by a rejuvenated Aston Villa time out, leaving them back in the relegation zone after Blackburn Rovers’ shock win at Newcastle. Neil Warnock was left disappointed with his team’s defensive efforts despite promising signs going forward.

Brighton come into this one in a fine vein of form and currently sit just two points behind leaders Newcastle United. The Seagulls are currently on a run of 12 league games unbeaten, their last defeat was all the way back in early September against Brentford.

Last time out, Brighton took three points at home against Fulham thanks to another Glenn Murray winner. The experienced striker has already netted 11 times this season and is just two goals behind the Championship’s leading scorer, Dwight Gayle.

The soaring Seagulls will provide another tough test for the Bluebirds but they do have a healthy record against Saturday’s opposition in recent years. Cardiff haven’t lost against Brighton in their last four meetings and only have two losses in their last 13 fixtures, dating back to 2004.

When the two sides met last season, Cardiff come out on top with a memorable 4-1 home victory to end Brighton’s promising run of form. The two sides shared a 1-1 draw at the AMEX Stadium in the earlier meetings, in the premature stages of the season.

Brighton Pair Shane Duffy And Paul Trollope Facing Uncomfortable Return To Cardiff City

Friday 2nd December 2016

By Terry Phillips

Brighton pair Shane Duffy and Paul Trollope can both expect a hot Bluebirds welcome to Cardiff City Stadium this Saturday (3pm).

Central defender Duffy returns to the scene of a devastating personal experience against City earlier this season when he scored two own goals before suffering the final indignity of being sent off.

Home fans will certainly take every chance to remind Duffy of that evening in August when he was in a Blackburn Rovers team beaten 2-1.

Trollope, Brighton’s newly appointed assistant manager, will also make an uncomfortable return to South Wales, having been sacked as Cardiff manager in October.

Both Duffy and Trollope are aiming to banish Welsh demons by helping their team earn victory, but home manager Neil Warnock will be out to increase their feeling of unease by halting Brighton’s bid to go top of the Championship.

The Seagulls are currently second, two points behind Newcastle United, and are unbeaten in their last 12 matches, winning nine and drawing three. They have kept eight clean sheets in that run.

Brighton have only lost once in eight away fixtures this season, going down 2-0 at Newcastle, and are intent on earning automatic promotion.

Ironically, Duffy’s dismal display for Blackburn in Cardiff and his own goal gaffes during August gifted Trollope his first win as City manager.

Now the two men are working together for Brighton and Duffy, a club record £3.5m signing from Blackburn, is in much improved form playing alongside Lewis Dunk at the heart of their defence.

Republic of Ireland international Duffy says: “At Blackburn, I was maybe getting away with things a bit more than I should.

”I’m not saying I was complacent, but even at the start of this season, when things were going against me there, I was still playing.

“You can’t be like that with Brighton because the competition is so hot.”

Trollope, meanwhile, is manager Chris Hughton’s new number two at the Amex Stadium in Sussex, having failed to make progress during a 12-game reign as Cardiff manager this season.

“Apart from being a very good fella, Paul is an extremely good coach,” says Hughton.

Cardiff will be without suspended Lee Peltier at right-back after he was sent off during their 3-1 defeat at Aston Villa last weekend with Matt Connolly, Keiran Richardson and Jazz Richards are players looking take over at right-back.

Warnock admits his team must battle and scrap their way through their last six matches of 2016, saying: “I can’t see a lot changing until January if I’m honest.

“I can’t fault the players, who are giving everything. There are no bad apples at the club, but we need a few reinforcements.

“Look at Hoilett and Bamba. I don’t know where we’d be without them.

“The players are doing as well as they can. I have no grouse about commitment. We just need a bit more quality.”

Cardiff, who have lost three of their last four matches, lie second from bottom and their six matches left before the new year are against Brighton (home), Ipswich (away), Wolves (home), Barnsley (home), Brentford (away) and Brighton (away).

Warnock intends to strike quickly when the January transfer window opens and is keen to sign three new players.

He has made it clear City need pace, quality and a striker able to score goals regularly at Championship level.

Cardiff are in a relegation scrap, but if they can earn eight or nine points at least between now and 2017 they will go into the new year feeling positive.

NEIL WARNOCK: "Paul would die for me"

"I’ve known Paul Trollope since he played for me at Torquay, people like him brought me back to life after leaving Notts County, they were a group of lads that went through brick walls for me on £100 quid a week. It brought me down to earth, he would die for me, some of the tackles he went through made me wince! Sometimes fate has a big part in life, he’s a smashing bloke, and now he’s at a wonderful club. He’ll be disappointed but at Paul’s age, he’ll learn from it, he’ll be a better person for it."

"I think he’s a wonderful bloke and a super coach."

Neil Warnock on Glenn Murray's threat:

"Glenn Murray was at Palace, I only saw him for two or three sessions when he asked to go, that was one of my biggest mistakes, I knew that within two weeks. We needed him within three weeks, he’d have been playing, but I let him go for family, etc."

Changes in the offing

NEIL WARNOCK: "I don’t think we were ready for Wigan, because you have to have other strings to your bow. But against the other sides not in the top six we have other options. I think we can give better accounts of ourselves against these teams."

"I saw the light at the tunnel at Villa, against a top club, with one or two additions we can be a threat in the second half of the season. I’m quietly confident at the minute."

Cardiff v Brighton preview: Matthew Connolly to boost Bluebirds

Matthew Connolly: Expected to start at full-back

Matthew Connolly is set to return for Cardiff's Sky Bet Championship game at home to second-placed Brighton.

Connolly, normally a centre-half, should deputise at right-back with Lee Peltier serving a one-match ban following his red card at Aston Villa last weekend.

Peltier's natural replacement, Jazz Richards, is still out with a foot injury which has kept him sidelined for two months, but the Wales full-back is expected to be available next week.

' BRIGHTON '

Brighton boss Chris Hughton must decide whether to keep faith with Anthony Knockaert.

The French winger has been substituted in the last two matches having returned to the team following the death of his father.

There is also a decision to be made on the opposite wing, with Jamie Murphy picked ahead of Jiri Skalak for the 2-1 win over Fulham.

Hughton has no new injury concerns but remains without defender Liam Rosenior and midfielder Beram Kayal (both ankle).

Re: ' LATEST NEWS: CARDIFF CITY v BRIGHTON ' UPDATED DAILY

Blackburn defender Shane Duffy experienced that exact sinking feeling on a rainy night in south Wales back in August.

Today he returns to Cardiff with Brighton, the club he joined just nine days after that catastrophic experience. He admits that he still cringes more than laughs when he thinks back to a personal performance that will see him featured on blooper tapes for years to come.

Duffy said: “I hadn’t had a game like that before in my career. I don’t think anyone’s had a game like that. And I don’t want another one like that, either. I’ll probably be on a few Christmas DVDs for that game, but what can I do about it?

“You’re letting your teammates down as well. They’re putting a lot of effort in to win the game and I’ve gone and done that. It was a long journey home.

"I was embarrassed when I left Blackburn so soon afterwards. I hope the Blackburn fans don’t remember me just for that one game. Hopefully they’ll remember that I did a lot more for them over the last couple of seasons.

“I always knew that I’d have to go back at some stage, but this is probably a bit quicker than I thought it would be. It’s still raw.”

It was the last Sky Bet Championship game that 24-year-old Duffy played for Blackburn. Nine days later he moved to Brighton for whom he has formed a solid central defensive partnership with Lewis Dunk.

They go to Cardiff this afternoon lying second in the table, yet even with their focus on gaining the automatic promotion they missed out on so narrowly last season, Duffy’s teammates have found time to rib him about his return to Cardiff.
