Newcastle United top list of football banning orders, but Wolves and Plymouth have most in past year

That dubious honour goes to three clubs who each had 21 banning orders imposed against their fans: Plymouth Argyle, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Midland League Division One side Atherstone Town.

75 football related arrests were made during international games last season

New banning orders last season Plymouth Argyle 21,the most last season of any club.

Across all clubs, 2,085 people are banned from every ground in the country, including 124 Magpies’ fans.

Their nearest challengers are Chelsea with 60 and Millwall with 57, while Liverpool have 49 fans banned, Manchester United 38 and Arsenal 30.

Newcastle have the highest banning current banning orders 144, with Wolverhampton on 52 and Cardiff City currently on 44 banning orders, some of the highest in the Championship.

Daily Telegraph

Thursday 24 November 2016 •

Newcastle United supporters have been hit with more football banning orders than those of any other club in the football league.

In total 124 banning orders are being enforced against Newcastle supporters, while across all clubs 2,085 orders are currently in place according to figures from the Home Office.

Chelsea supporters are the next worst with 60 banning orders followed by Millwall on 57 and Wolverhampton Wanderers on 52.

Football banning orders can last for up to ten years depending on the severity of the crimes committed and are designed to prevent further violence or disruption at and around matches.

Activities that lead to banning orders don't necessarily have to take place in the stadium and include incidents around the ground and in places such as train stations.

Last season 542 banning orders were issued by the police, an increase of 12 per cent compared to the number issued in the 2014/15 season. This is the first increase in three years.

Although Newcastle top the list when it comes to the total number of bans being enforced, their supporters were not the most regularly punished last year.

A blue flare is thrown onto the pitch during the Sky Bet Championship match at St Andrew's, Birmingham in October 2016
141 football related arrests for possession of pyrotechnics were made last year.

That dubious honour goes to three clubs who each had 21 banning orders imposed against their fans: Plymouth Argyle, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Midland League Division One side Atherstone Town.

All 21 of Atherstone Town's banning orders were given out as a result of disruption during the team's third round FA Cup qualifying match against Barrow in 2013. The fans in question were jailed for a cumulative total of 40 years for throwing flares at and attacking the travelling Barrow supporters.

Football related arrests also increased last year

The Home Office have also released figures on the number of football related arrests that police forces made last season with the total standing at 1,895 - 22 more than were made during the 2014/15 season.

Birmingham City led the way for football related arrests last year with 74, followed by Millwall on 69 and Leeds United on 68.

Manchester City were the worst club in The Premier League when it came to arrests with 66 made against their fans while Arsenal were in second with 60. At the other end of the scale just five Norwich fans were arrested in football related incidents last season.

In the Championship and The Premier League away supporters were far more likely to be arrested than home supporters but this distinction was less pronounced further down the leagues.

The number of supporters arrested for racist or indecent chanting decreased last year to 17, but arrests for criminal damage, violent disorder and possession of pyrotechnics all increased.

Thirty-six supporters were arrested for breaching their football banning orders last season.

The Football League Trophy was the competition most likely to feature football related arrests with 11.7 for every 100,000 attendees.

The Premier League was the least likely domestic competition for arrests to occur with 3.1 for every 100,000 attendees while 2.1 arrests for every 100,000 fans at Europa League and Champions League matches were made.

i think these figures are a massive factor regarding the drop off in our away support. being a drunk Cardiff fan is regarded as the crime of the century where being a drunk Bournemouth fan with a firework is obviously regarded as high jinx.
Cardiff 16 arrested . 10 of those banned. 62% of those arrested get a banning order.

Bournemouth 16 arrested. 0 banned. 0%.

and its not just Bournemouth.our rivals down east 20 arrests 3 banned thats 15%, Brisol city 24 arrests, 1 banned,4%

Leeds 4 times as many arrested as us{69} yet only half as many banned.5 ffs.8%
Leicster had 1 fan banned out of 43 arrested.
and on it goes year in year out arrests low, banning orders dispropotionate.

not such a way out suggestion if you read my post, our away support has been poor for a while,i think many are put off by a mate or aquaintance getting banned for something minor.

Maybe Cardiff police being keen to dish out civil banning orders plays a part in it.

These figures are totally misleading, Cardiff had 16 arrests 10 of those were Bristol city supporters

So ? my point is they are putting Bristol fans arrests in with ours, so whichever way you look at it, it's misleading they should only put CCFC fans in there, and I think the figure is 4 bans

If you look at the list Bristol city had 24 arrests and we had 16 arrests last season. Why would they put their arrests in ours? Was there even any arrests at the sevenside fixtures last season?

so?. there is no,whichever way. there are the official figures from the courts, police and uk government or there are figures conjured up by you. you seriously think they just make up some random list with fans being attributed to whatever club takes their fancy at the time?
