What should Cardiff City do with this striker?

Neil Warnock described Frederic Goungongbe as being one of the ‘best’ finishers in training but is he really good enough to nail down a starting spot?

Goungongbe has endured a miserable start to life in the capital, and is still yet to score a goal following his move from Belgian pro league side KVC Westerlo in nine appearances for the Bluebirds

But he is improving, gradually. Warnock also said that Goungongbe had been the ‘best’ striker at the club in these last two weeks, and that is the credit of him putting in the hard work during training. Ultimately, there was an element of surprise at the amount of energy the forward had during training.

But it was even more of a shock when he come on to play the last 20 minutes against Huddersfield on the weekend.

Warnock brought on the Benin-international in the 76th minute, and he looked lively during the time he played. He looked a lot stronger than he had done before but can he convince the Cardiff faithful that he is good enough to be a part of Neil Warnock’s plans?

It was clear that under Paul Trollope the striker was lacking real confidence, and nobody said it would be ‘easy’ to adapt to the Championship, he is in unfamiliar territory and he is still learning the English language.

However, the two sitters that Goungongbe missed against Bristol Rovers and Birmingham respectively has left him in the fans’ bad books.

Warnock is the type of manager who can get the best out of the Benin international, he didn’t have the record of 22 goals in 45 appearances for Belgian club Westerlo for no reason at all, he has talent but he now has to apply it to this tougher league.

Warnock will soon have to decide on whether to take a risk on the striker, or to offload him to bring in stronger options.

I thought he did Ok when he came off the bench considering the job he was asked to do. Lacks a bit of pace for me but certainly deserves a chance . But come January a decision has to be made whether to keep or send out on loan

The dilema is similar to when Rudi Gestede was here. A lot of fans did not rate him but he went on to bigger things
I think we should stick with him.
I have a feeling there is a lot to come from him especially under Warnock's guidance

He needs a goal, then perhaps we might see more confidence from him.

Personally I'd like to see Saadi come back and play off Lambert.

Same as every other striker we have, he comes into a shit team not scoring goals, plays a couple of sub appearances doesn't score and gets written off and abused.
