Emyr Huws: Neil Warnock hints at January loan for Wales midfielder

Tuesday 22nd November 2016

BBC

Cardiff City manager Neil Warnock has hinted Wales midfielder Emyr Huws could be offered out on loan in January.

The 23-year-old is not featuring for the Bluebirds, though Warnock said he was "not bombed out at all."

He explained that the good form of Arun Gunnarsson and Joe Ralls was the main reason Huws was not making the matchday squad.

"As it comes to January I suppose I will have to have a chat to find what he feels like," added Warnock.

"A lot will depend on what he wants.

"I'm quite happy to have him in the squad and he knows he's not bombed out at all he's training very well, but I do like to have that extra forward on the bench.

"He's been unlucky in some respects in the fact I've been delighted with the midfield.

"I think Gunnarson and Ralls have complemented each other, but I know he's itching to get a game.

"But it's difficult really to change what I think has been going very very well."

Huws has played 10 times for Wales, but missed out on the Euro 2016 finals when Chris Coleman's team reached the semi-final.

He joined Cardiff from Wigan Athletic in August 2016, but has made only three appearances this season - and none under Warnock who was appointed manager on 5 October.

Huws has played in three of Wales' four World Cup 2018 qualifying matches.

"I like to help players as well as just look after my first team squad," said Warnock.

"I realise when you're not in the team it's not very good for you."

Cardiff City are one place above the Championship relegation zone following their 3-2 win over Huddersfield.

Interesting one this. Clearly rates him enough to retain him on the books. Do you think he has his eyes on another midfielder as cover or are we good with what we have?

Huws must not be up to the job if after Wigan had loaned him out when they were in Division One and since We've signed Huws he's hardly played for us and if Warnock now loans him out,for me that says Huws was a bad signing?

For me I've always interpreted a loan out as "he might be good but needs development/game time"

I would assume if NW absolutely didn't rate him or see him in Cardiff's potential future it would be a straight up sale. Which obviously may still happen.

Ash, I agree when you bring in say a youngster and you loan him out,but Huws was at Wigan, they never rated him,he went to Huddersfield, they said he did quite well, but he never stayed,Wigan went up and joined us in the Championship and immediately gave Huws away on a Free and City signed him,but hardly played him and off he might go on loan again???

Maybe Huws has potential.
Time will tell :thumbright:

If it was up to me I'd play Huws ahead of Ralls we might get more than 29% procession .

Wigan didn't let Huws come to us on a free. All the reports in the summer said 'undisclosed fee'. I have no idea what that fee was, but most of the messageboard and press speculation was that it was about £1m. His reputation and value was on the way down, though.

Wigan paid Man City £2.5-£3.5m in 2014 for him.

He may have had a bad game but he must have quality or he would not be in the Wales squad. I thought Ralls had a poor game against Huddersfield and gave away the ball too much.I would give Huws a run of games.

Looks like the Preston game was very traumatic for everyone who was there . I was not but I base my judgement on seeing Huws play for a very good Welsh team not a very poor City performance under Trollope at Preston

Exactly, and until I've seen him play a reasonable amount of football for the first team I won't judge him. Especially after a run out in what collective probably the poorest performance of the season in a shambles of a side.
