Championship news: ex-Cardiff City boss set for Brighton assistant manager role

Brighton are currently 2nd in the Championship

Reading's convincing 3-0 victory over Burton Albion on Saturday moved them up to third in the Championship table, just four points adrift of Brighton & Hove Albion. And it is with the high-flying Seagulls - who came from behind to secure a 1-1 draw at home to Aston Villa on Friday night - that we begin this morning's round-up of the latest news from the second tier.

The Argus reports that Brighton are close to securing ex-Cardiff City manager Paul Trollope as their assistant manager, to work alongside boss Chris Hughton.

Trollope was sacked by the Bluebirds following their 2-0 defeat at the Pirelli Stadium last month - a result that left them on nine points from 11 games. The former Wales coach is now reportedly the leading candidate for the vacancy at the Amex Stadium following the departure of Colin Calderwood, who has left for Villa.

Sky Bet Championship Brighton and Hove Albion side have wasted no time in their search for an assistant manager, it has been reported that it will be former Cardiff boss Paul Trollope, according to The Argus.

In a whirlwind week at Brighton and Hove Albion, we have seen the news break that Chris Hughton’s current number two, Colin Calderwood, would be leaving the south coast to join Aston Villa.

Although a number of candidates have reportedly stated an interest in being Calderwood’s replacement, it appears that it will be, in fact, Paul Trollope.

Having worked with Chris Hughton at both Norwich City and Birmingham City, it is looking inevitable that Hughton and Trollope would be reunited once again.

The combination of Chris Hughton and Trollope is a recipe for success in many ways and it will only amplify and enhance Brighton and Hove Albion’s chances of automatic promotion to the Premier League.

The first test for the duo of Chris Hughton and Paul Trollope will come in the form of Fulham, Brighton will be hoping they can take all from Craven Cottage on Saturday.

Trollope missed out on the Aston Villa job but looks like he will return to the game very quickly

Paul Trollope could return to the Cardiff City Stadium in just a fortnight's time.

Reports in Brighton say that the sacked Bluebirds boss is set to land the assistant manager's job at high-flying Brighton & Hove Albion.

Trollope had been interviewed for the same role at Aston Villa, but Steve Bruce instead opted for former Scotland international Colin Calderwood.

Calderwood had been working at The Amex Stadium with Chris Hughton, and it looks as if the side second in the table will replace him with Trollope.

Good luck to him

A decent coach but not a manager unless the Swans have an opening in that department any time soon; although I think the current management team at all levels are doing a grand job at this moment in time! ;) :laughing6:
