' BREAKING NEWS ' ABSOLUTELY PATHETIC IN MY OPINION

Breaking: Fifa confirm disciplinary proceedings against FA include "the display of flags by fans with poppy and members of the armed forces.

England and scotland to be charged.

OPINIONS ?

' UPDATED '

Fifa have opened up disciplinary proceedings against both England and Scotland after they chose to wear poppies on their armbands during last week's World Cup qualifier at Wembley.

Both the English and Scottish Football Associations defied Fifa’s laws on Armistice Day by allowing their players to wear black armbands with poppies embroidered on them, despite football’s governing body rejecting their initial request to do so.

Fifa’s reasoning was that it broke regulations about the wearing of commercial, personal, political or religious messages.

The most likely punishment for the FA and SFA is a fine.

Entirely reasonable from FIFA imo. They laid down some rules and England and Scotland openly defied them.
For some reason they thought that there was no way to honour the fallen without having a 4cm poppy on their shirts.

The Wales FA handled the situation very well I thought. We listened to FIFA, didn't bother with a poppy on our shirt, but wore black armbands.
Plus the poppy display in the stand, armed forces on the pitch, wreaths being laid, special shirts being sold with profits going towards Help for Heroes. But for some bizarre reason we've been labelled disgraceful, embarrassing and disgusting. Not just by the English and English media but by our fans.

Personally I thought the Welsh FA were perfectly in the right for not wearing a poppy and played out this whole farce brilliantly :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

From the perspective of someone in the forces, I totally agree.

I'm inclined to agree. You can't break the rules just because it suits you. They've thrown down a challenge to the authority of FIFA.For them to do nothing now would make them a laughing stock and would seriously undermine their power in future disputes.

It also shows the wisdom of the Welsh FA.

What makes it hilarious is that the FIFA delegate at the match was Welsh I bet he never watched the game just made notes of where they went wrong.

You couldn't have planned it better!!!!

Yeah - remembering the dead - disgraceful.

Same old Fifth Column.

England and Scotland despite being warned decided to flout the rules from the governing body, they should rightly be punished.

What particularly winds me up is that by doing so they used the poppy as a way of sticking a finger up to FIFA. That's not what the poppy is for and I hope they throw the book at them.

The abuse some Welsh fans directed at our own FA was shameful, those people lured into a game of oneupmanship with England and Scotland totally forgot about the meaning of the Poppy.

Plenty of ways to remember the fallen (your choice of words quite distasteful) as shown by our own FAW and players.

So teams are to be allowed to break rules? Try to answer without saying pathetic or swearing just a yes or no. Teams who were warned and stillbroke the rules should go unpunished?

Corrupt FIFA taking the piss big time now. I think we should leave the organisation immediately and that most European nations and others will follow.

Yes or no teams who deliberately break the rules should be punished?

As an Irish fan I'm going to be honest I didn't realise just how important people feel the poppy is. I don't mean that in a disrespectful way it's just something I never looked into or gave any thought to before this week. After looking into it more I think it's a very respectful and in a way loving tribute to the fallen. I think fifas decision to ban it was ridiculous. As most fifa rulings tend to be.

However both the English and scotish fa were warned before the game they would be punished if they wore poppys so they deserve whatever they get. You can not pick and choose what rules to follow. Disgraceful ruling yes. Arrogant and foolish behaveour by England and Scotland I have to say yes.

Oh and by the way thought Wales paid a great tribute on the night. No idea why they are getting any abuse from anyone. Northern Ireland also very respectful and still followed the rules as laid out to them.
