A forum for all things Cardiff City

Neil Warnock speaks to the press this morning ahead of a challenging clash against Huddersfield Town.
The Cardiff City boss will no doubt update us on the fitness of Junior Hoilett and Anthony Pilkington. Hoilett was absent from international duty while Pilkington missed out at the last minute against Newcastle United.
Warnock will also discuss his squad and what he's made of some of the players he's had a chance to look at a bit closer over the international break.
The boss met with Bluebirds' fans last night and said he had been impressed with Frederic Gounongbe's finishing in training, so could the Benin man push for a place in the squad?
We will keep you all updated once he arrives :thumb right:

Junior Hoilett is fit
You’ll remember that Hoilett didn’t play for Canada in the international break.
Warnock told us that he was ‘optimistic’ he’ll be fit for tomorrow earlier in the week and last night hinted he was fit

NEIL WARNOCK Says "It could get worse before it gets better. We don’t want it to and we want to roll our sleeves up, the lads will do their utmost but I’m aware how difficult the fixtures are. On our day though I think we can beat anyone.
You can’t fix it [lack of a goalscorer], you’ve just got to your best. We should get more from centre halves, the midfielders too. We have got to start finishing off our chances. We’re not capable of keeping a clean sheet at the moment, we should have had six! All goals were preventable."

Positive injury update
It’s [international break] given a lot of people a chance to get fit. Matt Connolly isn’t far away. Jazz Richards is nearly fit. That’s been a big disappointment, it’s been one thing after the other. He’s still a bit away but he was running yesterday.

Could Fred be the man to fire us goals, he looks like he has something and i think a goal or 2 will elevate his confidence.

Could Rhys Healey be recalled?
WARNOCK: "Looking at Rhys, he has a lot of plusses. He’s my type of player, I just think at this point he’s better playing against men rather than coming back here and being a sub some weeks and not other weeks. I was really pleased with the standard and the way they played. Jeppo [Ronnie Jepson] went to see him the other night and he did well, he did well. Graham Westley is pleased that I’ve said it’s a great experience for him at the moment."

On Huddersfield
Neil Warnock: "We played them at Rotherham last year they were one of the best sides we played in that spell. I was very impressed with Wells and the way they played in midfield, they’ll have a lot of possession because that’s how they are. The lad Palmer has done very well behind Wells I speak to Dean Hoyle quite a lot and I just think he wanted to try something different and it’s done wonders. You can see Wagner is enjoying it, he’s done ever so well. It’s better for us to play against these sort of teams, though."

Warnock on what he can achieve with Cardiff
Neil Warnock: "If I get a pre-season I think I can get promotion with anybody. First you fight your way to a respectable position. The work is done in the summer and at the end of the season I think, January is a very difficult window. We won’t sign players for the sake of it.
I think we’re very capable of putting a run together but I do feel it’s crucial we get two major positions sorted out early doors [January]. Looking at the Championship it’s wide open, I know Newcastle will walk away with it but it’s open otherwise. I’m disappointed really I was hoping I’d have a summer to work with a club and to start from scratch."

Why Whittingham didn't play at Newcastle
NEIL WARNOCK: "I didn’t think Shelvey did a thing really, despite what I read in the newspapers, other than pass it to the centre halves. We just needed more legs in there and I don’t think Peter minded, I think Peter realised why we did it."
"Joe Ralls has been very good at set pieces but he proved me wrong by kicking everything into touch, You can’t win as a manager!"

Could Manga be one of the players to make way in January?
NEIL WARNOCK: "He’s on a very good contract so I wouldn’t imagine it’s a priority for him. We have to look at the current team and how can we improve that. Sometimes you have to wheel and deal, especially with FFP, chances are we have to get rid one or two. You have to look at the players not in the team."
