Walnut the whippet's last walk
BBC
12 November 2016
Hundreds of people joined a dog owner when he took his beloved but poorly whippet Walnut on a final walk.
The story of Walnut and his owner Mark Woods attracted social media attention from all over the world.
Mr Woods took his elderly and sick pet to their favourite beach in Cornwall for a last look at the sea.
Walnut was later put to sleep.

Did the same thing with a dog of mine about 20yrs ago.Hats off to the owner of that whippet who knew when his dogs time had come. Its a very hard thing to do but at least the dog never suffered.

Annis I lost my collie cross just over a year ago (Oreo),put it on here and had many lovely messages back from other posters. I found this story very moving when I read it yesterday. Don't know how he had the strength to do that walk to be honest. I was just glad Oreo passed away naturally and I didn't have to have her put to sleep. He did the right thing but it must have been incredibly heartbreaking thing to do. Hope his dog is at peace now.

I remember and it breaks my heart when dogs die to loving owners like yourself, they mean so much to me,they are not just dogs, they are like children and a mans best friend.
