I think that it is an absolute disgrace that Wales have not followed the actions of England and Scotland in wearing poppies in their match against the unwarranted demand of FIFA not to wear a poppy in their matches. How can they say that the poppy is a political symbol?
Those that fought and died for this country far outweighs the threat of losing points or picking up a fine. I would be very surprised if either country were deducted points and it's sad that the FAW did not have the courage to follow England & Scotland. Should the FAW have sanctioned the Welsh players to wear poppies against Serbia tomorrow?

I said yes but truthfully it doesn't effect me.

It is a game of football not a poppy wearing competition.
Play the game, win the football and wear a poppy after, before, in bed, in the shower wherever the hell you like. If we are going to risk the 3 points then we shouldn't bother playing.
I just wish people would grow up and shut up. The poppy has been completely bastardized for me. This whole saga shows that it is a now a political symbol

Poppy should be a personal choice (I choose to wear one) shouldn't be forced , also I wouldn't want us to risk a points deduction if Serbia were to complain . Diference between England/Scotland they are both wearing poppies so neather will complain. I'm sure before the game there will be some sort of gesture anyway

Well said
The players and fans will all have numerous opportunities to remember the fallen.
The poppy may not have the same meaning for people who do not come from British backgrounds

Good post and I agree.

The thing is, We ARE remembering/Honouring/ Respecting the fallen.
We will perform a Minutes/Two Minutes silence,
the team will be Laying Wreaths,
We will be raising cards to make a symbol of a Poppy
the FAW/Team visit war memorials as a team whenever we are in europe.
the team will be wearing Black armbands.
There will be a Video comemoration on the big screens.
The team will just not have an image of a poppy on their shirts!!!
What aside from wearing a poppy are the England/Scotland Teams doing?

Yes. Remember, honour and respect. I understand that folks have their own opinions but Coleman and the players want to wear poppies as their own personal mark of respect, as do the majority. Common sense should have prevailed but that's the last thing you would expect from an unfit for purpose organisation such as FIFA.

YES
no other argument

England vs Scotland: Fifa says it has not banned poppies and any claims that it has are a 'distortion of the truth'
Fifa says it has 'reminded' all four British FAs of the rules regarding 'political, religious or personal slogans, statements or images' ahead of Friday's 2018 World Cup qualifier

In which case, then, there should be no problem tomorrow night if Wales play wearing a poppy on their black armbands?

Pretty much sums it up.
Go back a few years when a poppy on a football shirt had never been heard of - were those players a disgrace for not wearing one?
The FAW seem to be doing a huge amount before the match, and I don't really see what the fuss is all about to be honest. I'll proudly wear a poppy (as I have been) and I'm sure the players/staff will be wearing one on the way to/from the game.

Wearing a poppy isn't the only way to remember as the FAW have shown. If England and Scotland had decided to adhere to FIFAs request then I don't think the backlash seen on here would have been to the same levels that we have seen.

Would england or Scotland "defied " the fifa ruling had they not been playing each other?
I think not.

You should add a "Not really bothered" category. Saying we're a disgrace for not defying FIFA's laws is ridiculous.
We're gonna have a minutes silence, we've got a massive poppy card display, soldiers on the pitch, wreaths being laid, videos on the big screen and commemorative poppy shirts on sale.
But if we don't have a little poppy on our shirts it's an absolute disgrace and complete outrage. FFS guys this whole saga shows how political the poppy has become, it no longer represents WW1 only. Its now representing an illegal war in Iraq and the murder of Irish citizens, very political.
