FAW/Poppy outrage

Fri Nov 11, 2016 11:59 am

For all those currently berating the FAW calling them gutless etc answer me this.

2015 13th November Wales played an international match against Holland without a poppy on their shirts. No one blinked.

2016 12th November Wales play an international match against Serbia without a poppy on their shirts - people call the FAW gutless call for protests etc..

Can somebody explain why the 12th is viewed as so much more important than the 13th when remembrance day is the 11th November.

Can somebody expain why there is so much outcry when fact is that poppys have only ever been worn once previously by the home nations in an international match and before 2010 were never worn ever.

Can someone explain how having a printed poppy ona shirt is somehow showing more respect for the fallen than a giant poppy held up by the crowd, a respectful silence before kick off and a reef laid by former military personnel.

This sudden outrage about the poppy on the shirt makes zero sense when you stop and think about all of the above.

Whilst I agree broadly with your OP, it doesn't help that you re-invented yourself for a day just to have a say on this specific subject. Surely, you would have been better posting with your usual member name and being 100 times more authentic? ;)

Another attention seeker, why not just post your thoughts on the thread that is already covering the topic

No idea myself but could be due to the fact England and Scotland have said balls to is, regardless of the possibility of a 1 point reduction penalty....and we have said 1 point reduction scares us more than showing respect

What's more important, showing respect for our fallen, or loosing football points. Discrasful

With you on this, there is other ways of showing respect also like black armband and the poppy being held in the crowd, one minute silence so on.

Not true, England and Scotland have the buffer that neither will complain to FIFA whereas we do not.

So laying wreaths a minute silence before game is not showing respect? But having arm band is? :o

Don't forget the poppy card display and the soldiers on the pitch and the commemorative shirts being sold... How disrespectful
