"WE HAVE ONE MAJOR PROBLEM RIGHT NOW" SAYS WARNOCK

Neil Warnock made the admission live on Talksport radio,Alan Brazil.

Thursday 10th November 2016

Neil Warnock would have known the various pitfalls involved in a return to management with Cardiff City, but the Bluebirds boss has now admitted he is severely lacking a goal scorer.

Cardiff drew a blank at home to Wigan Athletic a fornight ago when Rickie Lambert was out injured and Anthony Pilkington was used as an auxiliary striker

And Warnock, speaking to Talksport's Alan Brazil, admitted it was the main deficiency in his squad.

"We cant do anything until the (January transfer) window, " he said. "And we haven't got many goals in the team at the moment.

"We haven't got natural goalscorers.

"We had seven or eight good chances (against Wigan) and then they broke away with five minutes to go. That has been the one really disappointing result so far."

Peter Whittingham has been the main source of goals for Warnock in five games. The midfield stalwart has scored three times while Lambert and Pilkington have failed to find the net.

Sol Bamba, Joe Ralls and Aron Gunnarsson are the other Cardiff players to score under Warnock so far.

Spot on we need a natural goal scorer. Lambert should have been that player but he has failed to deliver so far although service to him is an issue as well.

I have a feeling young Healey may be the big surprise we are all looking for. Very Earnshaw like in that he does very little apart from put the ball in the net

At this point I'd settle for that. 8-)

He's scored twice!

Do we have any scope to call back Le Fondre?

Sounds a bit "thinking outside the box" - (pardon the pun) - but if Whitts knows where the net is would it not make sense to have him play a striker role until January.

He thinks like a midfielder, so will know what others are thinking, and clearly knows where the net is - so perhaps could give him a free role up front.

He is being used as an impact player.

I get your logic and 5/6 years ago when he scored 20 league goals I thought he would be a permanent fixture as an attacking midfielder. The other side of 30 now could he produce the effort needed to be a striker?

Like many others I have doubted PW many times in the past and lived to eat my words. I'm trying to say I don't think your idea would work but from experience I shouldn't write Whitts off and you just never know.

No, whitts is not a striker he doesn't have the attributes.

He has been at the club now for a long time and never got close to the first team. Cannot see it happening which would be a shame as he was banging them in for fun for the development squad not that long ago.

I would have assumed the very definition of development is to do that just that and if they "develop" sufficiently then they should be promoted to the next level not sent on loan to the lower leagues.

Yeah but playing out on loan and getting first team football is a huge part of a players development, clubs do it at ever level.

A damning indictment of the so-called "strikers" at our club.

Pilkington can be excused because he's not a striker, despite Slade and Trollope thinking that he is. Warnock I believe has only played Pilkington as a striker out of desperation and with his fingers crossed.

As for Zohore and Gounongbe

Seriously, which chump (or chumps) saw fit to give those two clowns anything more than a one week rolling contract each? :o

We are stuck with these two non-league standard wage drains until the end of their contract unless we can fool some other team (probably in Division 4 of the Luxembourg league) to take them off our hands for nothing.

By the time he is "developed" he will be over the hill

I agree with a lot of what you say.

That said sometimes a career can just come down to luck. I remember Cameron Jerome being behind Stuart Fleetwood in the young striker stakes 10 years ago. SF made the starting line up (against Derby I think?) because we had no fit strikers at the time but got injured himself just before half-time.

CJ came on grabbed his chance and went on to have a very successful career at PL/Championship level. So development is also about getting the opportunity to play. In Healey's case he just hasn't had an opportunity despite being better (@ goal scoring) at development level than either Stuart Fleetwood or Cameron Jerome were.

We are so overdue developing a home grown striker I'm just desperate for us to do so.

Lol :laughing6: I had something similar. Up to the Bristol City game I had attended all our home games without seeing a City player score. My pal who is also a season ticket holder had missed the home games up until then due to work commitments.

However, he made the Wurzzels match and watched PW & Sol Bamba score. At the end of that game he had seen 2 City players score this season @ CCS the same number as me despite having watched 5 games less
