Boxing Day matches

Tue Nov 08, 2016 10:19 am

When did we last have a home match on Boxing Day? Is it me or has this been a long time? I remember us playing Plymouth (I think) back in about 2009-2010 and I think we even lost that match but can't remember any since? Was there a match against Leicester over the Xmas period called off due to the snow back a few years ago too? I can't remember. I quite like having a home match on Boxing Day as I know that's the one day over Xmas I'm likely to have off so disappointed really that again we are away but can't be helped I guess :bluescarf: :bluebird: perhaps Boxing Day is no good for other people to attend so prob evens out!

We have definitely had one Boxing Day fixture at CCS because I can remember the traffic chaos caused by the post Christmas sales starting and everyone making their way to the retail park as well as CCS.

But the OP is right we don't seem to get many Boxing Day home fixtures. Also there were no fixtures at all last Easter weekend due to an International break something I can't ever remember before.

I looked it up for 2009 and saw that it was that year that we lost against Plymouth by a goal! id forgotten the match in 2005 hen we lost to Plymouth too! Typically that match back in 2009 on Boxing Day I was working lol but since have had that day off work and never a ho e fixture so it feels! Perhaps next year?

1pm kick off this year ffs, is there a genuine reason for this, tv or something?

I'm sure I'm 95% sure we played Coventry at home in 2010/11, Bellemy scored a massively deflected goal and instead of celebrating started kicking off at the ref,
Just short of 25k there & Christmas sales, traffic was chaos

What disappoints me is we have two fixtures over the festive season, Boxing Day and New Years Eve (OK are game has been moved to 30th) but you would at least think one of them would have been at home, if it was only to give people a chance to take a game in.

Christmas is an expensive time throw in two away games in less than a week not cheap.

Think the club should bring this up with the league to avoid next season.

That Plymouth game was bloody freezing and they were bottom of the league!

Your right there mate, Brighton not exactly one of our more 'local' games either. Friday night 7.45, absolute nonsense by Sky. It's a normal working day for most people, be surprised if we took anymore than 2-300 and Brentford moved to 1pm for no apparent reason.

Brentford's not on Sky no. I would be interested to know what reason the Police have for moving it forward to 1pm though, seems a bit unfair to me, maybe Annis, Carl, Since62 or Lawnmower might know through links to the Club?

I'd hazard a guess that it's because Chelsea and Arsenal are home and as it's the festive period limited resources so Brentford been told they have to play early :angry1:

I just remembered..that game vs Leicester was in 2009 - something like December 20th (approx) but it was snowed off. I remember now because Instead we went for some food and ended up with food poisoning and was ill for some of the Xmas period! I think the thing was that the pitch was ok it was just the carpark and perhaps travelling fans safety. I hate snow because there's such a pressure to get into work and you feel like you could end up putting yourself at risk! Would be better for it not to snow full stop although it is pretty to look at...that's about it!
