' Idriss Saadi on fire '

Sat Nov 05, 2016 9:44 am

The noises coming out from the club when he was with us was that he was not good enough. A player even said to me " he's one of the worst he's seen " it could have been he wasn't settled, confidence or he simply can't cut it at championship level. Like Fred he is tearing up the Belgium Prem is fit hungry and in great shape, no doubt Warnock will be looking at this as it won't even cost a penny.

Thoughts??

Gareth, What Russell Slade said about Idriss Saadi

The Bluebirds boss Russell Slade says that Saadi was being scouted as a potential target for some time before making the switch a day before the deadline

Idriss Saadi, Cardiff City’s new centre-forward, was signed after long, exhaustive checks on his ability, form and fitness says manager Russell Slade.

The Bluebirds boss outlined how club scouts watched Saadi play for a long time before the decision was made to make a move for the French-born striker.

“He has been on our list of possibles for a good while, watched and watched,” said Slade, who has gone through hours of video footage and read reports from club scouts on Saadi and other players on the list of forwards.

“We sent people to watch him and it is clear he is that typical number nine - strong, powerful, technically good. He can also nick a goal and had a bit of pace to play off the shoulder of defenders.

“It was difficult while we were assessing Idriss because he was injured at the end of last season and it was important we were certain he is okay.

“Our checks have been in-depth, we left nothing out. Our medical people identified that he needs a little time to reach the fitness standards we set our players. That work has already started, but he won’t be thrown in at the deep end until he is ready.

We've seen in the past that there is a big difference being able to perform in the Belgium League compared to our league. Belgium may have a strong international side, but their league is not exactly one of the best. Could say the same about us, Wales has a reasonable international side, but the Welsh League is not of a very high standard. We will see if he is up to Championship football if and when he is given the chance. I think there is potential there, but it would'nt surprise me if he is not able to have the same impact here that he is having over there.

You summed it up when you said Fred scored alot in that league to be honest. I'm not saying he's not good enough but we as fans have no real scope to say. I'm sure Warnock is aware of who he is and if he's good enough then he will get the chance.

TBH the brief time we saw him on the pitch I thought he looked decent

He's also played for France at every age group I think except the first team. He must have something about him to achieve that.

He was also tipped as one of the five best youngsters coming through in France a couple of years ago. He looks quick, strong and skilful. I think he really could do the business for us if he came back.

The other two never had that kind of pedigree coming to us to be honest and really don't belong at this level.

Off a big injury, in a foreign country, doesn't speak the lingo in a club at war. What went wrong ?

Physically he must be back to his best, confidence must be good as well. Whether he is up to championship football is the only thing left for debate..... Won't hurt to recall him at christmas and we'll find out. They can have Zahore who just doesn't seem to have the application required for a Warnock type player

Yeah all that's left is for us to see him playing at Championship level. I'm just saying we shouldn't get too excited about his goals in Belgium. But we're all hoping he comes back and hits the same form for us.

With Warnock saying we've got to get a natural finisher in it wouldn't do any harm getting him back as well as signing another striker in January to boost our options. Zahore & Freddy can move on hopefully as I don't think Warnock rates them at all seeing as we're desperate up front at the moment and they're not making the squad.

He's scored some decent goals in the league and is currently top goalscorer. Surely has to be worth a punt

Your right he can't be much worse than them two. send them the other way sign a player and bring back saadi. I'm sure warnock will be assessing all the options..
