' CITY READY TO SELL PLAYERS/TO BRING IN NEW PLAYERS '

Neil Warnock prepared to sell Cardiff City players to fund January swoop for striker -

By Chris Wathan

Friday 4th November 2016

Neil Warnock has admitted he can't solve all of Cardiff City's problems before January after revealing he's GOT to make changes to his squad.

And the Bluebirds boss has insisted he will be prepared to offload fringe players – and even cash-in on stars – to make it happen.

Warnock wasted little time hitting the free-agent market to bring in four new players within weeks of arriving at Cardiff City Stadium.

But as he prepares to take on promotion-favourites Newcastle – a team he reckons have the best squad the Championship has ever seen – Warnock says he has made it clear to the club's hierarchy that he still needs new recruits.

The 67-year-old revealed club staff are already eyeing up potential new faces and will step-up their attempts to identify potential signings during the upcoming international break that follows this weekend's daunting trip to the Toon.

With Rickie Lambert's injury highlighting the problems up front, Warnock said: “It’s not the international break I’m looking forward to, it’s January if I'm honest. I’ve learned a lot in the last few weeks and we have to change certain things – and probably one or two players as well.

“We haven’t got an awful lot of natural goalscorers so we have to work harder for the goals, so we have to try and solve those problems in January because I don’t think we can solve them before.

“We have got to be out and about in these next few weeks, looking at international games, and all the staff will be looking at players at different levels in the next couple of weeks.”

Warnock says he believes he will have the blessing of the club board for his plans, though did accept that he will have to make room in the squad and on the wage bill to land the players he wants.

And having previously insisting he has inherited an unbalanced squad, he told Bluebirds fans to brace themselves that the club could have to accept offers for prominent players if it means allowing them to patch up weaknesses elsewhere in the side.

“I've suggested what I'd like to do and the type of player I'd like to bring into the club,” he said of talks with Mehmet Dalman and Ken Choo. “And to do that I've said how I would offset certain players to cover that.

“It's alright saying let him go, let him go, but you still have to have people that want them; we may have to probably let go someone we may not want to, if it means getting the right player in.

“It's a difficult time but I do feel we have to improve the squad if I'm honest, and you have to make difficult decisions sometimes."

It comes after Warnock signed four players as free agents as soon as arriving at Cardiff City Stadium. But the boss is determined to do some more business.

He added: “It might be the only player you have an offer for or can sell is someone you might want to keep – but you may feel if you can let one player go, you might be able to bring in one or two in where you feel better.

“I think when you're younger, you want to do it over a period. But in my case, I want to do it over yesterday. They seem to be on board with what I'm saying and it's up to me to try and generate the income to get the players in I want to improve the squad as soon as possible.

“January is a difficult time to buy but needs must at times. It will probably be a little more difficult for us, but that helps with the challenge of making the club better longer term.

“It's a difficult time and you're always glad when it closes but I think in our situation, I think we'll need a full month to sort things out because the games come thick and fast as well.”

We we're borderline with ffp before Warnock so we've brought in three new players and paid off trollope since so just assumed we would have to sell anyway

I honestly don't think there is anyone in the squad now who is absolutely essential to our progressing except perhaps Bamba at the moment.

Can't think of any other player I would be desperate to keep if a decent offer came in for them.

Your absolutely right and both you and I can say it without any comebacks. However, NW has to manage these players so a little bit of flattery goes a long way if you want to show someone the exit door...

We have a manager who knows exactly whats required at this level and it's great news that "They seem to be on board" with what he wants to do.

It's also good news that NW doesn't have a blank cheque to sort out the problems that we all know exist in the squad. If NW can raise the funds by player sales I hope the board do their job and make sure the finances are right with any deal but, the choice of player MUST rest with NW and not "The Committee".

The board aka the committee know they are dealing with a true operator in NW. It is hard to see how they will play any kind of significant role in choosing which players to bring in or get rid of.

Tony, I was told that Dalman got Tan to agree to leave Warnock alone on many things to do with football :thumbright: :thumbright: :bluebird: :bluebird:

Wasn't it Dalman who said he felt he was like a cat who had got the cream when be appointed Ole? TAN just signed a big cheque?

I don't think we'd have much of a squad left if we saw 12 players leave.

Personally I think okeefe is a quality cm and I wouldn't like to see him go. The rest of them, I wouldn't be too devastated although I can't say I've seen the youth players you've mentioned much.

Clubs are not going to want to take our rejects off of us though.Look at Le fondre ,crazy wages so its either loan or seeing out his contract. I think we will certainly be lumbered with ,zahore, manga and that fred fella for however long their contracts are for.

Is he the Messiah or just another naughty boy?? :?

Seems he didn't cut it for the last two managers, so why is he suddenly going to be our saviour?

A-Corn played well the other night. Were we wrong to off-load him so quickly, despite his obvious inability to adapt to English football?

Fair question(s), I think :ayatollah:

Hope we wouldn't sell O'Keefe as rate him. Would also like to keep Kennedy as he defo had something when first burst into team. Maybe Richards out in some form as wasn't considered when peltier injured and maybe immers it not cutting it as not sure what wage he is on.

I don't think any of us know for sure Chris. But what we do know is the Belgian league has, as far as ccfc are concerned failed to prepare players for championship football and is clearly poor standard.

That's only my opinion without the 5/6 coming in!

2 strikers a winger midfielder, keeper and possibly versatile defender?

The threads on here suggest that there are not a huge amount of players that most people would say absolutely have to be part of our squad. At the start of the season fans posted on here about us having one of the strongest squads in this division. Our league position proves otherwise, and Warnock will have to improve this squad just to get us to a position of mid table repectability. I think he has enough experience to ensure we climb away from the relegation zone before too long.

I totally agree and for many seasons I have thought the quality in or squad woeful. The Premier sojourn still gives me shudders! Apart from Bamba and Gunnarsson I think all the rest are fair game to sell as we desperately need a big injection of new blood, particularly in midfield and upfront. I've got confidence in Warnock that he will sort it out.

However, it would be fair to say that we do have the beginnings of a good defensive unit so unless we get offered someone spectacular at a knock down price I'd be happy to leave them alone, maybe except for the Jazz bloke.

Whatever happens I hope there's an emphasis on pace and efficacy.

I think it was obvious to many that we would find things difficult this season with the players available to whoever was the manager at the start of the season. Although I was disappointed with the appointment of Trollope, I made a prediction of a finishing position of between 12th and 15th based on our squad rather than our manager. I still think we can get up towards those positions, but it will take some good wheeling and dealing by Warnock to make my prediction come true, and at the moment it looks like I may have been a bit over optimistic, despite being slated as a pessemist for not agreeing with those who predicted an automatic promotion place for us.
