Totally lost shape and quite a negative IMO.
Immers for Whitts would have shown intent, but not O'Keefe.
Kadeem = Div 1
Early days and Warnock is still sussing who is who.
Above all else we need genuine Championship strikers

By Jan and at the end of the season some of those players will be gone under Warnock and he better be backed to get his own players in.

Our midfield isn't great generally apart from Gunnar. Hopefully it's an area Warnock will look to improve in the New Year.

Weird subbing Whitts when virtually every chance we had created was down to him.
Can't knock Warnock as he's made very few mistakes so far, if any, but Whitts is not the player to sub when we're looking for a goal.

Totally agree, I think Whitts has been substituted in every game by Warnock and I think we lost control of the ball when he went off. I thought Harris looked dangerous when he was actually given the ball.
Sat Oct 29, 2016 11:28 pm
I thought whitts was injured to be honest he was holding his side after taking a knock. That's why I believe he got substituted, otherwise ralls or noone should have been sub'd - both had a poor game.

Whitts has gone off in the previous games due to running himself into the ground. Wasn't the case today, and O'Keefe was a bloody disaster when he came on for him. I honestly can't belie how off the pace he was.
Harris could've been a good change, but we literally did not get the ball to him for over 15 minutes after he came on. He'd have been a game changer had Whitts still been on the pitch, in my opinion.

Agreed - need to keep Whitts on.
Sun Oct 30, 2016 6:48 am
Whitts was struggling, either knackered or had a knock in the second half
Sun Oct 30, 2016 7:01 am
Agree on Whitts, totally lost all shape when he went off.
But thought Harris beat his man and put in 2 good crosses when he came on. Dont believe hes league 1 at all ! should have used him more if anything. Done more than Noone did all game. I think Richardson should have came on not Okeefe. Was a strange sub and probably Warnocks 1st error. Smash and grab for Wigan

what bloody chances
he never created one chance in open play , and its like playing with 10 men with him in the middle when we dont have the ball

For someone who watches alot of football, your opinion on football is shocking. How can you not see Whitts is a quality footballer. Must have shit in your eyes. Baffling.

A few months ago alot of u where saying is whitts good enough to play now ur saying to keep him on ahahhah

Whitts is my favourite player (well between him and Dave Bennett) but in this style without a chops or Jay to to hit we are not maximizing on the difference maker he is.
TOBW (other forum) always says our central midfielders are "samey" and you have to agree. Ralls, O'Keefe and Gunnar all primarily want to do the same thing, each has strengths and weaknesses in that role but as a package are the same.
IMO Whitts is in the same mould as Pilks or Immers, genuine attacking midfielders so the subbing of an attacking midfielder for a normal CM was a bit baffling.
Assuming 4141 is our choice for the time being, playing with a "no pass" back four and a DM coupled with extremely limited mobility up front are we maximizing our Pete's key strength ?
Pilks for Noone takes the pressure from Lambert and he'll tuck in more than Nooney or Holliett and give Whitts another option.

Poor decision replacing Whitts with O'Keefe when one goal would probably been enough for the 3 points. Was Warnock trying to settle for a point?

I agree we lost shape when Whitts went off but he had taken a knock on his left hip and at the point he was taken off he was really struggling and fading badly. In my opinion NW had no option other than take him off when he did.
Your point about the lack of genuine Championship strikers in our squad is spot on and was, in my opinion, at the very core of the reasons we lost yesterday.
These are very early days for NW and I think until he has a chance to find an alternative to Lambert in January we will see more games, and results, like we did yesterday.

Agreed, but some people would have a pop at Whitts whatever happened.
It's correct that that we didn't create much in open play, although I presume trooblue was at the bar when Whitts hit a peach of a 40 yard ball to Noone to put him inside the full back in the first half !! But then set pieces become even more important and virtually every corner or fee kick Whitts took created a chance yesterday (actually better delivery than other games this season).
The reason for the lack of chances in open play was every time the ball was played forward it came straight back with no Lambert there to hold it up.
Someone put stats up recently where Whitts has created more chances than everyone but one in the Championship this season but hey .............. don't let the facts get in the way of a good Whitts slagging session

When Whitts was subed the game ended for us and the inevitable happened

You all must have been watching a completely different game. Wigan's number 4 followed Whittingham around everywhere, marked him out of the game and then Wigan got more and more dominant running the midfield in the second half. Putting O'Keefe on for Whittingham to give us more energy in the middle was the correct decision.
The OP must be getting Harris confused with Noone. Harris received the ball in a position to get at their full back twice and unlike Noone and Hoilett, Harris beat him twice. His first run, he beat the full back down the outside and put in a delicious cross to the back post and the second time, he did a mazy run between two of their players and got brought down for a free kick. Harris didn't receive much of the ball, but when he did, he beat his man and created. He needs to start instead of Noone next game.

I think we'll always disagree on Whitts.
Our tactics do a better job of marking Whitts out of the game than the opposition. The ball is constantly in the air. But, this is the position we find ourselves in.
For me its not about the Whitts the player, like all of us he is ageing, and its a young mans game. For me its his replacement.
Without clever movement up front he will be limited to three or four touches of class when all the appreciators clap enthusiastically but it doesn't result in any game changing activity, much like Noone and even to a degree Holliett. With one target man with limited mobility we need bodies in the box to attack the cross. This is why i was surprised with O'Keefe coming on.
A midfield of Gunnar, Ralls and O'Keefe won't get the ball to the wingers with enough quality and time whoever we play there. I also think wingers are a waste of time. Malky got us promoted without them
