" UPDATE " Neil Warnock on Lambert

Lambert injury update

I don’t think Rickie has a chance at all [for tomorrow]. He’ll see the surgeon tomorrow. He’s had three stitches inside the cut and eight or nine outside.
He’s walking alright but it’s got to heal.
He’ll be ok after the international break but we don’t know if he’ll be ok for Newcastle.

UPDATES 28/10/16

Cardiff City will look to make it four games unbeaten under Neil Warnock when they take on Wigan Athletic at home tomorrow afternoon.

The Latics have struggled so far this season and sit four points adrift of the Bluebirds in 23rd.

They this week sacked manager Gary Caldwell, with Ryan Giggs and Manchester United U21 boss Warren Joyce said to be in the running to replace him.

For Cardiff, they look set to go into the game without the services of Rickie Lambert. An update on his 'horror injury' is expected this morning as Warnock holds a press conference.

Rickie Lambert, remember, suffered a terrible leg injury last time out against Nottingham Forest, with Neil Warnock admitting the wound left him shaken.

Here’s what Warnock said about it at the time

' RICKIE LAMBERT '

Neil Warnock: "Rickie’s a bad one, you couldn’t really look at it at half-time. The cut is that deep they’re just worried about whether there’s any ligament damage, I’m shaking now [just thinking about it]. It’s severed right through his shin, terrible."

"We’ve no idea at all at the moment in terms of the timescale. “It looked really bad. I don’t know how cuts heal but it looked horrific. I had to get one or two of the lads out, I didn’t want them looking at it at half-time in a game like that.”

What Nathan Blake had to say

"Wigan’s players could be coming to the Welsh capital feeling sorry for themselves, providing the perfect opportunity for Cardiff to carry on climbing under new boss"

On Lambert's replacement

WARNOCK: We’ve got a few options. Lex [Immers] did well yesterday. [Marouane] Chamakh has been under the weather illness wise and Pilkington did well at Forest.
I’m quite happy with whoever we decide to go with.

On his selection policy

WARNOCK: "I pick the team I think that’s going to win the game. You have to pick the best team. [Brian] Cloughy used to say that to me.
Most of my career I’ve done that. I’ve wavered a few times and it’s been the wrong decision most of the time. I generally pick what I think is the best team."
