Bookmakers have dramatically shortened the price on Ryan Giggs to succeed Gary Caldwell as Wigan Athletic manager .

Priced 4/9

Thursday 27th October 2016

Ryan Giggs, who was interviewed for the Swansea City job and is actively looking for his first break in management, heads up a list which also includes Karl Robinson, Tim Sherwood and Paul Lambert.

The 42-year-old former Manchester United star is now priced 4/9 (according to SkyBet ) with ex-MK Dons boss Robinson the next favourtie at 3/1.

You can get odds of 7/1 on former England manager Sam Allardyce taking over at the struggling Championship club, with the likes of Sherwood, Lambert and Dougie Freedman further back.

Wigan are 23rd in the Championship with just two wins so far this season. It is a run of form that spelled the end of Caldwell's regime on the eve of the Latics' visit to Neil Warnock's in-form Cardiff City.

Best of luck to him, he'll need it ;)

Let's hope they appoint him before Saturday! If they do I'll pop down the bookies and put a stack on us getting three points and them getting relegated.

Wonderful player... dubious reputation as a coach, totally unproven as a manager, never played or coached in the Championship.

Funny if Giggs ever managed Bury, he would be Giggs if Gigg lane, all he would need to do then is sign Will Griggs

Giggs shouldn't be being linked to manage Championship clubs let alone Premier League clubs before.

Most decorated player yes but he is unproven as a manager. I have a lot of respect for former players such as Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink who start off low and work their way up. The way it should be done. :thumbright:

Don't see no harm in him getting linked to a Championship club, be more alarming if it was Prem club.

Mark Hughes started at the top with Wales and all his jobs have been in the Premiership?

It could go either way with Giggs to start managing straight away in the championship and I think he should start from the bottom and manage a league 2 team.
