Wolves sack manager Walter Zenga , after just 87 days in charge.

Wigan sack manager Gary Caldwell.

Wigan Athletic have parted company with manager Gary Caldwell just four days before the Latics are due in South Wales to take on Neil Warnock's Cardiff City side.

Caldwell leaves the club after 18 months in charge, despite leading them to the League One title just five months ago.

But the club are now 23rd in the Championship and have won just two of their 14 league matches this season.

Wigan Chairman David Sharpe said: It's undoubtedly the toughest decision I've had to make since becoming Chairman.

"We need to identify a new manager who can have an immediate impact and deliver success in the long term."

There is no news yet on who will replace Caldwell, or indeed who will manage the side this Saturday at Cardiff City Stadium.

Caldwell becomes the sixth Championship manager to lose his job this season, with Cardiff having already made the switch from Paul Trollope to Warnock during the October international break.

Warnock's side will be looking to extend their unbeaten run to four matches against the newly managerless side this Saturday.

There was a time that I would be worried to face a managerless team. Not any more. Even more confident of beating Wigan Saturday now.

that now makes 6 out of the bottom 9 teams who have now sacked their manager.

its a bit ridiculous, but understandable given the money at stake nowadays. zenga was , of course, a joke appointment and there was nothing on his CV which suggested he was the man to bring wolves up. however, foreign owners (and dare i say it, the fans) prefer an exotic name. surely someone who knows the championship will be better placed to get a team promoted? furthermore, foreign managers are more used to working under a director of football and having little control over transfers.

10-15 games is now the norm for a new manager to get before they are fired. we used to laugh at spain and italy, but the tenure of PL and championship managers is getting shorter than ever.

You have to feel for Caldwell, he's thrown into the deep end to manage Wigan last season, gets them promoted and then they sack him. Usually I would be worried, but this could work in our favour. I'm confident we will beat them.

What do these chairmen/owners expect?? Wigan are no giants they take the cheap option for a manager who does well to take them up, and then sack them when going gets tough. Instead of giving a bit of support

ZENGA CONFIRMATION

Wolves have confirmed Walter Zenga's contract has been terminated with immediate effect.

Stefano Cusin, assistant to Zenga, has also left the club.

The club statement reads: "Wolves will be conducting a thorough process to recruit a new head coach and won’t be revealing any timescales associated with this important task.

"Rob Edwards, first-team coach, has been placed in interim charge of the first team, supported by Under 23s coach, Scott Sellars.

"The club would like to extend their thanks and best wishes to Walter and Stefano for their contribution to Wolves during the season so far."

I sort of agree but I also think that there is a creeping elephant in the room which nearly every club fails to address.

What I mean is spoilt overpaid players who don't perform in spiteful acts to get managers the sack. How is it possible that a set of players can be so pathetic under one manager and then amazing under another within a few days? For a good example look no further than CCFC!

OK there could be tactical or training methods which differ but that cannot explain the situation fully. There is a problem with players not pulling their weight for reasons which have nothing to do with football. At some stage something has to be done about it as there are too many cases of the tail wagging the dog.

I agree. The owners/board acted at jus the right time over this. Many people on here still won't give them credit, but they got it spot on with the timing here. :bluebird:

True! But as with us at the moment (or this season ) anyway. The case is more that Trollope wanted to play Wales 5 at the back counter attacking football and we simply haven't got the players to play it. Now that Warnock has gone back to basics the players understand their roles and performance has gone up.
