Aberfan - Daily Mail Online

Fri Oct 21, 2016 10:53 am

Never posted like this before as I just like to scroll the site but this has got me going

I have just written formally to the Daily Mail to complain about the fact that their decision to put the Aberfan disaster way down their site today below crap about so-called celebs and other rubbish. I have also seen one comment in particular that looked like a sly anti-Welsh dig. It matters even more as their site is one of the world's most visited news feed

My Mrs is 57 and lived in Market Rd as a kid so she would have been there mid to late 60's early seventies I guess.

Have you 'written formally' to the other leading newspapers who, too, have put the Aberfan disaster way down on their site ?

I only looked at one site

Happy to write others if I see them. Have you done anything? What exactly is your point?

That's not the point of this post. It is about having a go at the Daily Mail. The Mirror does not mention Aberfan at all. (not one mention) but there are lots about Emmerdale, woman with 6 pack stomach, man driving with kitchen utensil instead of steering wheel, and X Factor. These people only look at their side of a story, and anything else is wrong, as they cannot possible be wrong about anything.

I always thought it was the empire english racist jibe that flies out overtly or covertly throughout the
English media.

They can't do blacks, Europeans, Jews, muzzies, Chinese etc
Accepted racism now.

There's only Us, the Aussies and the Yanks left to denograd

You can't expect anything else from the English press can you.
Just think if Wales had a serious press, with serious journalists, serious articles and serious readers. We might just get some truth then.

Aberfan has never had the rememberence it should have in the media. Some people over the bridge had never heard of the disaster until the ITV documentary last week. As far as english media is concerned the only thing that happened in 1966 is their football team winning the world cup

True.

The government (across all parties) betrayed Aberfan for decades after the disaster. That's the reason it's not covered as much as it should be. The government simply do not want it to be known what a f**k up it was. Before, during, and after the disaster was an absolute disgrace so the powers that be have ushered it under the carpet. That is why it is not covered in the national curriculum and why nobody outside of South Wales has great awareness of it happening. Absolute shame.

We will never forget though.
