Avast or AVG both are free which work really well but they also do buy premium versions which have extra facilities

I've used AVG (the free version) for several years now on my desktop and the kids laptops and never had a problem.

If you've got Windows 10 you don't need anything further. Windows Defender is all you need.

I've been relying on that - and its predecessor Microsoft Security Essentials on Windows 7 (also free) - for about 5 years without incident.

Before that I was on Avast and before that AVG - all free versions. There's a lot of money wasted on Antivirus software - and they can sometimes generate problems all on their own.
