Get our feet back firmly on the ground

Sat Oct 15, 2016 11:20 am

Wow ,what a night last night ,I purposely stayed off the board ,wanting to watch the whole game again (as I recorded it ) before making any comments (as its allways a different game watching from the stands)
Now you all no I'm never negative so bear with me
It really was a very good result ,gained on the tactics ,our new manager employed ,
Abraham was given no chances all Night by Bamba and Morrison ,Tomlins was snuffed out by a great performance by gunnerson
And the whole team had more energy and commitment .
A lot has been said about holliots performance ,and a lot of us fans had been crying out to get Harris a start ,IMO Harris would have been a revelation if given the licence to stay high and wide like holliot has been given .
Whitts being pushed further up field is the only way IMO he gets in the side so again well done warnock .
Peltier and Bennett look nailed on if fit to be our 2 fullbacks as both are solid and reliable .
So our back four look more solid ,but and here it comes how will Bamba cope with 3 games in a week ,IMO he looked not quite fully fit ( understandable in his situation of no club or recent game time ) with Connelly injured in training on Thursday afternoon, Bamba will be needed for Wednesday ,would he then be able to play to the standard needed again on Saturday at Forrest ,this same question could be asked of holliot however in his case Harris would be a good enough swap if needed.
Lambert did really well up front but who else do we have who can play up there on his own ,lambert will not play 3 games a week without either getting injured or suffering a dip in form.
The real big issue for me is our clear cut chances being created ,last nights performance as good as it was ,or should I say as pleasing as it was ,has not improved so far ,however it's only one game into warnocks reign ,so plenty of time for him to get the required improvements needed in this area, warnock took over with our goal difference being minus 11 ,that is the big problem ,he has started well enough ,making our defence more solid ,our midfield more energetic and direct ,giving us width and pace with 2 wingers told to stay higher and wider ,we just need to start creating more clear cut chances ,then we can all start dreaming again .
But today my feet are firmly being kept on the ground
Wednesday can't come quick enough for me
Will be interesting to see what team he can put out ,but more importantly what team will turn up ,as we have been a real Jekyll and Hyde kind of team so far this season , not being able to find consistency over 90 minutes.?
However last nights win has given the whole club a huge feel good factor ,let's all try and a get a mate to come on Wednesday and see for themselves ,that the future looks brighter under warnocks guidance

Agree with all that apart from Hoilet is more disciplined than Harrid IMO and on numerous occasions. Oils be seen dropping back and covering Bennett when he went upfield. He was also positionaly very good when Bristol knocked the ball out to our right (covering).
Not sure Harris would offer the same big as I said, it's only my opinion

I thought the whole team looked good last night. A lot more energetic. Bamba and Morrison were solid pelts and Bennett superb. This is why he has brought 4 players in. Because of the heavy fixtures and other squad members not being as good when called upon. Eg Chamack can come in instead of calling in fred/zohore.
Bamba if tired give him 60 fetch on Bruno his concentration can last 30 mins :laughing5:
Noone or Hoillett then we have Harris or Richardson etc .
I am really looking forward to Wednesday and came away last night feeling better than I have for a good few months :ayatollah:

Agree with most of your points. There were still areas to improve on last night, notably midfield. Too much possession given away, but Gunnarsson and Ralls were great. I feel Warnock will address the problem soon enough. But despite that the belief and confidence within the team was apparent and solid leadership too. I can only see it getting better and better.

I agree with most of this.
You can tell within minutes that Hoilett has something about him and is better than Harris. His touch was sublime last night. Like you say, Harris should be a great replacement though.
You mention Bamba playing three games in a week, well that's why we now have a decent squad. We have Manga who can step in. The problem might come during the African Cup if both Bamba and Manga are involved.
My feet are also firmly on the ground (unlike others who are talking of promotion ffs). The test will come when we get beat as it won't be like last night for every game.
For now though I'm still throughly enjoying last night.

I thought Gunnarsson struggled against Tomlin and of course only one of them scored!

Tomlin always seems to score against us. He's a good player at this level for sure.

However, that's the sort of game we would have undoubtedly have lost with Trollope in charge and although it wasn't a great performance by us creativity wise, the commitment and fighting spirit by all of the team was there for all to see, and has to be a reflection on the influence of the new manager.

Still unsure about Whitts and Gunnar in midfield - would prefer to see O'Keefe in there than Gunnar to be honest.

I don't think Bamba has ben involved with the Ivorian team for a while so I don't think we will lose him to the African cup.

Who's going to pass the ball in that midfield? Whitts has to play

I agree ! You just cannot play O'Keefe and Gunnar, no passing ability and that is crucial playing with two widemen.

I think you're being unfair on all three. I think they will surprise you when we have the luxury of greater possession.

The bits of class were from Whitts and their fat lad. Different type but in a night of mayhem they still found time for what separates the championship from league one.

One only question for me is how long will it take Warnock to retrain Whitts to the DJ Whitts of floating up there someone but make things happen and knock a few in or totally lose patience and drop him. I have a feeling we won't see much of Whitts away, but as this is an old squad I guess there will be a lot of (resting) rotation.

Guunar, Ralls or O'Keefe for me its 2 from three for me

Whitts, Immers, Huws and Pilkington any two from four

Lambert or Chamack with Pilks an alternative that rarely works only one from this group

Bennett,Peltier, Richards,John two from four

Holliet,Noone, Richardson, Harris, Pilkington,

Bamba, Morrision, Manga,Connolly

Doesn't look a bad squad does it :ayatollah: :ayatollah:
