Wurzel's goal last night - seen it again

Sat Oct 15, 2016 10:06 am

There's nothing wrong with it.

Don't get me wrong - I was going absolutely bonkers with Gary O'Neil telling the full back to carry on & play the whistle - but in hindsight he was dead right.

It wasn't a head injury, Immers does fall awkwardly and is winded and confusion ensued.

Thing is we stopped, they didn't.

It was sickening that they scored from that period of play, plus I think Amos should do better - but maybe he got caught up in the whole episode? Who knows? But if it was the other way around we'd have been telling our lads to carry on, so fair's fair.

I'll hold my hands up and say I, like 20,000 others got caught up in the heat of the moment calling the ref (and their players everything from their hole to their pole) and it wasn't helped that he'd booked Bennett and Whitts for what looked perfectly good tackles - but on this occasion, having seen it again, he called that right.

Still a great win, and it was finally nice to see the lads play with some fire in them.

It wasn't a flawless performance and I'm not going overboard, but it was a special night and long may it continue.

By the letter of the law, the ref got it right and we'd have had no issue with it the other way around.

But players have never really bought into the rule changes and often take it upon themselves to put the ball out without ref instructing them - it's professional courtesy. I think that's what really wound up our players and as a result, the crowd.

Should say though, the way Lex was moving after the fall, had I been the ref I would've blown my whistle.

However. We're only going mad because it's the 'done thing' if everyone always played on. There wouldn't be an issue. Yes, we should've been more savvy. But I bet if Bristol were winning they'd have kicked it out. To me that says volumes, they know it was wrong.

You sometimes get a scenario where a teams player goes down whilst they are attacking and if that attack breaks down they then expect the other team to put the ball out.

For that reason I'm all for playing on.

However, my annoyance last night was the lull in play when one of their players slowed and thought to put it out. Both teams then stopped only for Bristol to catch us unawares.

He should have never been allowed to go past so easily, was it Ralls he got past for the goal? He went past him way to easily.

i don't have a problem with teams playing on if there is an injury. unless its a head injury you play on and leave it to the referee.

if we were desperate for a goal we would expect our players to do the same. i was more concerned with our keeper being beaten inside his near post, but the ball did travel through a players legs to be fair to amos.
