Lee Johnson has some bad news for Cardiff City and their fans ahead of tonight's Severnside derby – Tammy Abraham is fit and well and looking forward to continuing his goal-scoring exploits in a Bristol City shirt.

Arguably the hottest property outside of the Premier League right now, the teenager has made an immediate impact since moving from Chelsea to Ashton Gate on loan in the summer.

Having scored 11 goals in 13 outings for the Robins, the Londoner this week transferred his talents to the international stage, netting twice as England Under-21s thrashed Bosnia & Herzegovina 5-0 at Walsall.

If Severnside rivals Cardiff City and their manager, Neil Warnock, are hoping Abraham's England exploits have caught up with him aheadof tonight's Sky-televised clash in the Welsh capital, they are going to be disappointed.

Asked about his top-scorer's state of readiness ahead of a return to Championship action, City head coach Johnson revealed: "He's already texted me to say how hungry he is and how much he is looking forward to the game on Friday."

Of course, Johnson and his staff will assess the striker's fitness and general condition ahead of the game, but there is no doubt that he will start. And that could spell bad news for a struggling Bluebirds defence that has already conceded 20 goals this season.

Johnson added: "The good thing is that he has a great face. What I mean by that is, when I look into his eyes, I can really see into his soul. I can tell whether he is hungry, whether he is tired, whether he has slept, and I can always judge what is right for him.

"When Tammy is enthusiastic and bright eyed and he cannot hide it, he is like a jumping bean.

"But when he is tired, he shows it as well, and you can then plan his (training) session and his day accordingly. His preparation and work leading up to a match all depend on how he looks when he comes into work.

"He was off on Wednesday, because he needed that recovery day, and he will be back in today. We'll judge it from there.

"I know what he's like, it's live on Sky and he'll want to play the entire game. He's been like that for the last 90 odd games for us and Chelsea and he's played through injuries and illnesses, which is unusual for a young player as well."
