Yes, very sad. Wasn't he one of the players that got BC promoted to the old First Div in the mid 70's?

I think he was. Remember him going on to play for Man City. He may have been one of the Ashton Gate 8, players who tore up their contracts to to save the club from going under (not sure about that though). Sad to hear this news.

It was Chris Garland who was one of the 8, not Gow.

I, too, was very sorry to hear of Gerry Gow's passing. The 70s were great times for Cardiff City v Bristol City games. Condolences to his family and friends, and to all at Ashton Gate. Let's hope that Friday's game will be an occasion that Gerry would have enjoyed, (apart from the result, of course!). RIP.

BCFC here, yes Gerry Gow's death has hit a lot of us Bristol City fans hard, personally speaking he was my first football hero.
Hard as nails, but fair with it,he played football the way us older ones appreciated it, nothing fancy, no diving, and no trying to get other players in trouble.
His family will be at Ashton Gate next week for our home game v Blackburn, I've no doubt it will be an emotional day.
There is rumour of a minutes applause for him in the 64th minute of our game on Friday evening.
Good to read the nice words about him from fellow football fans on here :notworthy:

RIP Gerry :(

Before my time but to stick in peoples minds like that he must have been quite something! I hope it is a classic game on Friday with some decent football played to mark this great mans memory. :ayatollah:
