Striker joins Bluebirds ranks ahead of derby-day...

Cardiff City FC is delighted to confirm the signing of Moroccan international Marouane Chamakh, subject to international clearance.

Having signed a short-term deal with the Bluebirds, Marouane will link up Neil Warnock for a second time having previously played under the City Boss in the Premier League for Crystal Palace.

Born in Tonneins, South West France, Chamakh began his professional career with Bordeaux and went on to spend eight seasons with Les Girondins, scoring a total of seventy-nine goals for the club.

The striker, who has sixty-five international caps to his name, scored fourteen goals as Bordeaux won the Ligue 1 title in 2008/09, before helping them reach the Quarter-Finals of the UEFA Champions League the following year.

A move to Arsenal was to follow, where Chamakh made sixty-seven appearances, adding fourteen strikes to his career tally. Following a short loan spell at West Ham United, he continued his Premier League career with Crystal Palace from 2013-2016, making sixty-five league and cup appearances for the Eagles and netting on ten occasions.

Speaking exclusively to Cardiff City Player HD in an interview that you can watch in full as part of this Wednesday’s early edition of ‘In The City’, Marouane said: “I’m so happy to be here and work with the Manager again.

"I worked for him [Neil Warnock] at Crystal Palace before and I’m happy and proud to work with him here at Cardiff City FC.

“Cardiff are a side that should be on top and I think we can improve going forward. I’m looking forward to meeting with my new team-mates and getting started. I can’t wait to score for my new team.”

First Team Manager Neil Warnock added: “We’ve signed Marouane on a short-term deal until January to assess his fitness.

“He’s a versatile player with pedigree and somebody who impressed me during my time at Crystal Palace.”

I had a feeling he wouldn't have his hair when he was trying to delay the inevitable at his previous clubs  Welcome to the club. :thumbright: :ayatollah:

I'm just wondering, what league position we would have been in now ,if Warnock had joined at the start of the season ?
This is before we have played a game under him , but the positive vibes and feel good factor with him in charge, also his player contacts .
I think we would be at least top 6 ,never mind I'll enjoy the rest of the season , I think its going to be fun .

It's a strange one that it's only until January, maybe something to do with FFP, maybe he wants to get fit and move on to bigger things.

But if it's good enough for NW it's good enough for City

Not strange, good management. If he's a dud then out he goes, same with Hoilett at the end of the season. We've learned not to give these 'names' big long contracts i.e. Macheda, La Fondra And Dicko.

It is strange. The guy has not played since last season I am sure. Do you think he is match fit because I don't and it may take 2-3 weeks to get there and so it's November already. That's why I think it's strange

He's been with West Brom and played a couple of friendlies I believe.

Well he may be close to match fit if that is the case. Good signing as are the other two :bluescarf:

I think it makes perfect sense

On our side
We need a striker until the window opens
Nobody else of his quality is available
He will be gone in january to the cup of nations so we wont have to pay his wages for 5/6 weeks whilst hes not here which frees up money for a new signing

On his side
He gets his fitness up ready for the tournament
Gets paid a decent wage instead of nothing
Puts himself in the shop window for january

Everybodys happy

It states on Cardiff City Player - 'We've signed Marouane on a short-term deal until January to assess his fitness'

A few people today have said about our new players not being match fit but they will still have a huge impact on Friday whether they play or not for one reason. In the space of a week we have had a new manager and 3 (could be 4) new signings, if that alone is not enough to motivate our current group into playing for the shirt and their place, then hang your shirt up and close the door in the way out.

I fancy Friday will be a good game and hopefully the best we have played in a long while.

If he comes off the bench and makes more of an impact than Fred and Zohore then that is a bonus :ayatollah:

I didn`t think he had been in the Morocco squad for some time. Has he returned to playing Internationals for them recently?

Training fit and March fit are two different things. Gaining match fitness and that sharpness can take a fair run of competitive games.

Finally! It looks like we have a manager prepared to get something done and take control. Lets hope we can now start turning this disaster of a season around.

He is not in the Morocco squad tonight and as said above I don't think he has been playing internationals recently
