Steve Bruce and Steve Clarke
08/10/16
Ex-Hull City manager Steve Bruce is the favourite for the Aston Villa manager job, according to Sky Sports.
Bruce, who won promotion to the Premier League with Hull last season, winning 1-0 in the play-off final against Sheffield Wednesday, leads the list of contenders for the next man in the hot seat at Villa Park, but is closely followed by Steve Clarke.
Clarke was appointed in the summer as Roberto di Matteo’s number two, and is currently caretaker manager there. Other names such as Huddersfield’s David Wagner and Bristol City’s Lee Johnson have been distanced in recent days, with bookmaker Sky Bet making Ipswich’s Mick McCarthy and Brentford’s Dean Smith the next favourites.
Bruce, who made over 300 appearances as a player for Manchester United, has had a fairly successful managerial career, including stints at Wigan, Sunderland and Villa’s neighbours Birmingham City.
He resigned from his job at Hull shortly before the season started, and was in the running to become the next England manager.
