HOW CARDIFF COULD START V BRISTOL CITY

Media Wales

BEN AMOS

Warnock wants his goalkeepers to be big, physical, experienced and able to launch the ball quickly upfield when necessary. Amos fits the bill for the time being, but Warnock may yet move for someone with greater experience in January.

LEE PELTIER

Cardiff's manager wants tough-as-teak no nonsense defenders and Peltier probably fits the full-back bill best. Tigerish in the tackle, quick in recovery, he's Warnock's type of player. A shoo-in for the team.

Lee Peltier will be one of the big winners under Warnock
SOL BAMBA

Warnock isn't signing the Ivory Coast World Cup defender and former Leeds captain for no reason. The Bluebirds are spoilt for choice at centre-back, but the new boss clearly wants something, or someone, different.

SEAN MORRISON

So, will it be Morrison, Bruno Manga or Matt Connolly as Bamba's partner? Manga is the best of the three technically, Connolly rarely puts a foot wrong. But you just sense Warnock will be drawn to Morrison's power and undoubted aerial ability. Nip and tuck between him and Connolly, mind.

JAZZ RICHARDS

Again, his greater defensive prowess is likely to win him the nod at left-back ahead of Declan John or Joe Bennett. However, given Richards is not a natural left-footer, this is another position Warnock may look to bolster in January.

ARON GUNNARSON

The captain of Iceland hasn't been at his best for the Bluebirds for some time, but he is exactly the type of dog of war midfielder Warnock loves. No-nonsense Gunnarsson led Iceland to another international victory in midweek and looks like becoming a Warnock kingpin, possibly even his captain.

Aron Gunnarsson is Warnock's type of combative midfielder

PETER WHITTINGHAM

You can't see the Bluebirds' playmaker being left out just yet and he'll probably get the Warnock vote ahead of Emyr Huws or Stuart O'Keefe.

O'Keefe is the type of busy midfielder Warnock likes. But Whittingham's experience and set-piece expertise remain crucial.

However, you can envisage Warnock going after a bossy, dominant midfielder in January.

JUNIOR HOILETT/ANTHONY PILKINGTON

Like Bamba, Hoilett isn't being signed for nothing. Cardiff need pace and Hoilett can provide it on the flank. Used to play under Warnock at QPR, so the manager knows him well.

However, Warnock is bound to be an admirer of Pilkington and he will be firmly in the mix as well.

Suddenly, it seems, Cardiff have genuine options.

MAROUANE CHAMAKH

A third player Warnock is trying to bring into the set-up with immediate effect. Warnock is a big admirer of the ex-Arsenal man and feels he can link the play well in a No10, second striker kind of role.

He could even battle it out with Pilkington for the crucial role.

Not sure where that would leave Lex Immers, but again Cardiff suddenly have plausible options.

CRAIG NOONE

Has been badly off form, but could just fire under Warnock's masterful man management. Although Warnock wants his team set up powerfully and with solid organisation, there is always a place for an X-Factor kind of player. Noone and Hoilett fit that bill.

If Warnock gets the best out of Noone, Cardiff could have some player on their hands.

Craig Noone of Cardiff sees his close range shot saved by the keepers legs
Warnock will get the best out of misfiring Craig Noone
RICKIE LAMBERT

He isn't the quickest, but Warnock will surely love having a striker of his experience and stature leading the line. Even in his 35th year Lambert will get goals at this level, just needs the right service.

Not Gunnarsson and not Noone, neither of these can keep possession. Makes me laugh when Gunnarsson is described as our midfield "warrior" or "dog"

Agree.
But NW will pull a tune out of them if there is one to be played.

I've completely lost faith in noone and think he is played on the wrong side of the pitch.

That could well be the line-up over time. I think only Hoilett might be in line for a start in the near future. I think Warnock will favour Lambert because he loves his big centre forwards but Chamakh and Bamba could well become starters once they get match fit.

Gunnarsson is going to be key under Warnock I think and there's every chance he will be captain. I'm sure Warnock will get the best out of him. I'm hoping for a new look midfield from now on and a box to box midfielder in January would transform us under Warnock's guidance.

I don't know where these myths start. Yes MC is a good team player but like anyone else he is prone to a blunder now and again.

I think he's pretty consistent but like any other Cardiff or championship player he's prone to mistakes.
Manga is another player who gets tarred with the 'always has a mistake in him' but he's our most skilful defender by far. Admittedly he's off his game at the moment for whatever reason.

City now have a manager who can, uhm, manage! :ayatollah:

Don't discount a sudden improvement of form from a few player who may have lost their way. Neil Warnock knows how to get players motivated. I've never seen a team of his come to us and lie down. Far from it. Some of our most infamous (and bloody) games have come against his sides! ;)

Hoilett played 90 mins for Canada in Morocco on Friday so I'd say he's ready to go.
