Ex Arsenal striker Maroune Chamakh set to become a bluebird!

Cardiff City set to land ex-Arsenal FC striker Marouane Chamakh as Neil Warnock targets his THIRD free agent

Friday 7th October 2016

Marouane Chamakh is available on a free transfer

Neil Warnock is set to continue his Cardiff City revolution by trying to land Moroccan striker Marouane Chamakh, the THIRD free agent he could bring in within 48 hours of taking over the Bluebirds.

Warnock has already moved in for pacy winger Junior Hoilett and no-nonsense Ivory Coast centre-back Sol Bamba.

But he is also keen to bring in Chamakh, who once cost Arsene Wenger £14million when he signed him for Arsenal from French club Bordeaux.

Chamakh played 40 times for Wenger's Gunners before moving to Crystal Palace.

His Selhurst Park contract was not renewed in the summer and Warnock is swooping to try to land the 32-year-old, who has won 65 caps for Morocco and scored 18 international goals.

Chamakh plays off the main striker and Warnock appears keen to pair him with number one front-man Rickie Lambert.

Cardiff's new boss wants his three new targets signed up before his first game in charge, at home to Bristol City next Friday. The three of them could even each feature in that Severnside derby, which has taken on a whole new meaning for the Bluebirds following the cluib's ambtious capture of Warnock.

Chamakh signed for Arsenal in 2010 and was the strike partner of Robin Van Persie under Wenger.

He had a brief loan spell with West Ham before signing for Palace, then managed by Ian Holloway, in the summer of 2013.

Warnock has wasted absolutely no time in bolstering his squad, having told the Welsh media on Thursday afternoon that he felt it was 'lightweight' in certain areas.

Warnock feels a Lambert-Chamakh partnership can bring goals to the Bluebirds, with the likes of Hoilett, Craig Noone and Anthony Pilkington supplying the ammunition.

He is also likely to make moves in the January transfer window for further signings, with a dominant, bossy midfield player one area he may target.

Nothing on the official web site to say we have signed a player yet. Until I see the player(s) at The City stadium holding or wearing a Bluebirds shirt I will not beleive we have signed anyone.

Interesting that he's seen as a second striker. Always looked quite tall and rangy to me.

he looked a distinctly average, forgettable player when i saw him for palace. that said, that was in the premier league, and the championship is clearly a lower standard. maybe, like kenwyne jones, he will find life in the championship more up his street.

its very convenient having a few players that can come in and allow warnock to put his own stamp on the team from day 1, which doesnt usually happen when managers come in mid season.

that said, the signing with real potential is junior hoilett. he looked top drawer when i saw him play for blackburn. we would clearly be a stepping stone but he has the ability to cause real damage in this division.

Not a bad signing for Cardiff.

I thought he did a good job when he turned out for Palace.
