THE TABLE - HEART V THE STATS

Thu Oct 06, 2016 11:08 am

Lots of views on our final position now we have NW on board....top 6, 8th, 10th etc. But this is what the maths says we need to do and it looks a big ask even for the 'Man'.

Current Points per game 0.73 (Charlton relegated last year with better ratio)
We finished 8th last year with 1.48 points pg
To get to 8th this year we need to get over 1.7 pg every game from now on.
The top 3-4 sides last year had average of 1.9, so we would have to have near promotion form even to get back to 8th.

A great improvement now would could get us 1.5 (twice as much as current) but only get us about 60 pts approx. 12th.

Lots of things happen in a season but perhaps the range of 12th to 16th is the best the maths suggest.
There's always exceptions to the rule (Warnock!), but only very occasionally man beats the stats...fingers crossed.

Cheers mate.

It's a big task,I think some are getting wayyy to carried away with thr whole Warnock buzz. It's exciting but making the playoffs will be a small miracle!

If we end up out of the bottom 3 in may I'll be happy, if we end up in top 10 I'll be ecstatic .

Interesting stats which put things into perspective. We are currently in a bad place, and getting away from the relegation zone would mean that Warnock was a good choice. I think we would have struggled to stay in this division without Warnock. Now I think we have a good chance of getting somewhere close to mid table respectability.

Did not Reading go from bottom at Christmas to get promotion. I think they won about 13 games on the trot. I may be wrong as I am going from memory
