Neil Warnock will hold talks with Cardiff City in the next 24 hours over their vacant managerial position, according to Sky sources.

The Bluebirds sacked Paul Trollope as their manager on Tuesday following their poor start to the Sky Bet Championship season.

Warnock has been out of work since leaving Rotherham at the end of last season after guiding them to safety, finishing nine points clear of the Championship relegation zone.

If Warnock does agree to succeed Trollope as Cardiff manager his first game in charge could be against Bristol City on October 14, live on Sky Sports 1 HD.

That's for fookin sure guys a mercenary but at his age don't blame him

Our championship status is worth millions, wouldn't be surprised if it's a small salary with a vast bonus for stayin up and even larger if we make playoffs (which I can't see in a million years)

Cheltenham won't be paying him if he's our manager.

Surely not great if he wants to potentially make us wait that long, Annis?

He'll get a nice fat bung thrown in plus free prescriptions if he rents a house here which is handy at his age

Neil Warnock has been made the front runner for the manager's job at Cardiff City reports the Daily Mail, and fans of the Welsh club are very happy about it on Twitter.

With Cardiff in 23rd position after 11 games, the decision was made to sack Paul Trollope, who had only picked up eight points so far this season.

The club now have the benefit of an international break, meaning they have more than a week before their next Championship fixture to appoint a new man to take the club forward and guide them up the league table.

Warnock is the leading candidate for the job according to the Daily Mail, with the 67-year-old currently without a club after leaving Rotherham at the end of last season.

The Sheffield-born manager has a wealth of experience in the Football League, as well as managing in the Premier League with Sheffield United, Crystal Palace and QPR.
With a long CV to his name and a great reputation at Championship level, Cardiff fans have taken to Twitter to react to the news that Warnock is the front runner for the job, and they are very happy that he is being considered to replace Trollope as their manager.
