Middlesbrough fan 'bottled' and three men arrested as more trouble occurs at West Ham's London Stadium

Further unrest at the London Stadium on Saturday saw police brought in to separate supporters and West Ham fans accused of violence during their 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough.

West Ham avoided a fifth successive Premier League loss but again the game was overshadowed by trouble off the pitch, as Hammers fans sang: 'Stratford's a s***hole, I want to go home.'

Slaven Bilic's side sit inside the relegation zone after only one win this season and their supporters made it clear that they are not happy with their new home.



Victoria Gibson, the daughter of Middlesbrough chairman Steve, spoke about 'disgusting behaviour' from West Ham fans and said an elderly man was 'bottled' during the match.

She wrote on Twitter: 'Silly WH fan injuring one of ours. Disgusting behaviour. Our man, an elderly gentleman, was taken out of the ground as a result. Shocking.

'It's also unacceptable that some of my family and friends have been shut in the stadium while WH fans carry on outside. Terrifying.'

Gibson was referring to reports that the trouble continued outside. When challenged about what happened inside, she replied: 'Sure. Cause an old man asked to be bottled. Have a day off.'




West Ham fans were told to sit down by stewards during the game but sang: 'We'll stand where we want.'

Other songs heard inside the London Stadium were 'We should have stayed at the Boleyn' and 'We're treated like s***'.

In the second half, police were brought into the away end and positioned between Middlesbrough and West Ham fans.

Afterwards, Bilic was asked if he felt it was his job to make the London Stadium feel like home by winning.

He said: 'Of course it is my job, our job, my team's job.'



A statement from the Metropolitan Police Service said: 'Following the match between West Ham and Middlesbrough on Saturday, 1 October three men have been arrested in connection with a disturbance outside the ground.

'Two men were arrested on suspicion of affray and the third was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer. All three currently remain in custody pending further enquires.

'During the match officers were also deployed inside the stadium following a separate disturbance. The matter was quickly dealt with and no arrests were made.

'More than 40,000 people attended today's match, the vast majority of who were good natured, with only a small minority intent on causing disruption. There were no reported injuries following the disturbances and enquires continue.'



A West Ham United spokesperson said, 'West Ham United will investigate incidents involving both sets of supporters outside London Stadium after today's 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough.

'Metropolitan Police have confirmed that two men were arrested on suspicion of affray and the third was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer. All three currently remain in custody pending further enquires.

'This behaviour has no place in football and West Ham United, with cooperation from all London Stadium stakeholders, including the police, Stadium Landlords E20 and Stadium Operators LS185, will continue to operate a zero tolerance policy on such incidents.

'We must stress that the vast majority of the more than 400,000 supporters who have attended a game at the Stadium since August have behaved impeccably, and we will not let the acts of mindless individuals tarnish their reputation.'
