Cardiff face Burton Albion at the weekend, ahead of an international break that is notorious for managerial changes.

Trollope is already under a great deal of pressure and many are already calling for his head. Should they lose on Saturday, that will only intensify, but would more change help or hinder the situation?

People were desperate for the club to shed Slade, without considering the alternatives. Trollope was always likely to be his replacement and it has not yet proved to be an upgrade. Would Lennie Lawrence constitute an improvement on Trollope, because he is likely to be the person to succeed him if necessary.

Derby are reportedly thinking of replacing Nigel Pearson with Gary Rowett, Neil Warnock or Steve Bruce. Stellar names that would surely give this Cardiff side a shot in the arm, but we are all well aware that they are unlikely to push the boat out to that extent.

Were Cardiff showing any shoots of recovery, it would be far easier to plead for patience. Instead, Cardiff are getting worse by the week and first up after the international break is a televised Severnside derby. That is starting to look like a real make or break clash.

The longer they remain near the foot of the table, the harder it will be to drag themselves clear, especially with the likes of Sheffield Wednesday, Newcastle and Aston Villa to play in the next couple of months. If things do not start to improve soon, Cardiff may soon find themselves out of their league in every sense.
