Burton Albion boss Nigel Clough wants three points this weekend

Cardiff City's visit to the Pirelli Stadium is a big game for Burton Albion, according to manager Nigel Clough, with it being the last chance to take three points prior to the October international break. The Brewers have not won a match since prior to the last international fortnight, when they beat local rivals Derby County 1-0 at the Pirelli Stadium.

Cardiff have struggled so far this season, currently sitting 23rd, but possess genuine quality across the pitch with the likes of Peter Whittingham and Craig Noone regulars for the Bluebirds. Paul Trollope's side visit the Pirelli tomorrow (3pm) and Clough knows, with Albion currently 18th and with 10 points from their first 10 Championship matches, a victory over Cardiff on Saturday would be the ideal result to take into the October break.

"It's a big one for us on Saturday, and we'll try to get a win," said Clough. "Generally speaking, I think it is an incentive to the lads to say 'come on, we've got a few weeks off after this - let's go into the break on a high'.

"It would put us on target as well, at just over a point a game, towards that 50-point mark to survive this season."

Clough has been pleased with his side's consistency, in terms of performances, so far this season, but maintains Albion are not content with taking plaudits above points as they push for suvival in their first ever season in the second tier.

"We've played some good stuff up until Tuesday night (at home to QPR) where we struggled at times," said Clough. "We've played some good football home and away. It's now (about) getting the balance between playing that good football and picking up points, which we need to do.

"We're not here for plaudits."
