Ex-Man United and Cardiff City striker on trial with Premier League club

Federico Macheda could soon be back in the Premier League

Watford have taken former Manchester United striker Federico Macheda on trial after he recently became a free agent.

The 25-year-old has already featured for the club’s Under-23 side, scoring a penalty in a 4-2 defeat to Hull City as he bids to win a contract at Vicarage Road.

Macheda had previously looked set to return to his native Italy with Pescara, but now wants to remain in England after his proposed move fell through.

Having broken through for United at a young age, Macheda failed to live up to his potential and has had a host of clubs since then, largely outside England’s top flight.

The laziest, most gutless professional footballer I have ever had the misfortune of watching ....if he gets a contract at Watford someone will definitely have taken a "bung" to get that through !!!!

Watford have given former Manchester United and Cardiff City striker Federico Macheda a trial with a view to signing him.

The 25-year-old has been brought in by Hornets boss Walter Mazzarri, who will have a look at the Italian-born forward in training and in match action for the club's Under 23 side.

Macheda scored a penalty in the Hornets' Under-23 game against Hull on Wednesday and turned in an impressive performance as he looks to earn a deal until the end of the season. He first rose to prominence when scoring two goals for United in his first two games in 2009 but he was allowed out on loan several times as he struggled to force his way into the first-team on a regular basis and had temporary spells at Sampdoria, Doncaster, Birmingham, Nottingham Forest and QPR before joining the Bluebirds.

He might of been shit for us, but sometimes a player and team can just click and it could be a dream move

Good luck to him.

With limited talent, and almost no effort, he'll need luck.

So annis what would you have done
1=keep him until his contract runs out
2=release him and pay him some of his remaining contract
IMO those were the only two options the club had
No offers came in for him
He was not going to play for us as he was not rated by our manager
Also I don't think any loan offers had come in for him
Hmmm
