' PAUL TROLLOPE ' SAYS THANKS TO CITY FANS FOR STICKING WITH US

'Losing Rickie was a huge blow but we were beaten by the better team tonight'

Wednesday 28th September 2016

BY PHIL SMITH

Trollope hailed the fans for producing 'their side of the bargain' but bemoaned his team's home results

Paul Trollope has conceded that Cardiff City were beaten by the better team on Tuesday night, but felt that losing Rickie Lambert early in the game was a huge blow.

Lambert started the game brightly but was substituted early in the game after suffering a hamstring injury.

Cardiff City struggled to create chances in open play as Derby County grew into the game and punished the Bluebirds in the second half.

Trollope said: "We were beaten by the better team tonight.

"Losing Rickie so early in the game was a huge blow to us, he's been the platform and the link of our lay. That was a bitter blow on top of the strikers we were already missing.

"Rickie had experienced a bit of tightness but we thought he'd be fine, and he started the game in a bright manner.

"It made it harder for us to build our attacks in the forward areas. We still felt that we were pretty solid despite Derby's possession in the first half.

"It was disappointing to concede the goal early in the second half, they had a lot of passes in the build-up and we could have put the pressure on earlier.

"The events of today maybe gave them a freshness, it was a difficult evening for us."

Paul Trollope defended Kenneth Zohore after a difficult evening for the substitute and thanked fans for sticking with the team.

He said: "Kenneth's a young player who is still developing, he's still very much learning the game.

"It was a big ask for him in a difficult situation.

"I'm not one to make excuses, you still have to believe you can cope with the opposition. For large spells of it we did that, but we didn't look too likely in open play and didn't build up a huge head of steam."

Trollope said Lambert would be assessed after the game with a hamstring injury and that 'fingers were crossed'.

The guy is clutching at straws, step down mate, you are nowhere near the level for this championship.

I honestly believe if we had an experienced manager, he’d get the best out of a bunch of great players.

Sorry mate, saying its all Trollopes fault is just wrong. These great players as you call them are under performing and should have a good look at themselves.

Shameless pandering to th supporters. Vast majority were on the players back for their style of play from the first minute, and not much singing throughout the game. I'm not having a go at our fans for any of that, I'm just pointing out that Trollope is talking out of his arse.

The players are poor but not much difference in players to last year, jazz starting to look better than malone, fabio didn't olay that much and amod has done well. Problem is with manager.

Agreed, they should be held accountable too. We've got a weak squad, the weakest and most overrated we've had in ten years.

to be fair to our fans, when we did have a go they got right behind the team but those chances to generate noise are few and far between cause there's nowt to cheer about.

The players are not performing they need someone to give them a good bollocking and get into them to perform better. As has been said it's not that different a squad to last year. Sadly Trollope does not seem to be the person to gee them up. Has to go !
