Derby County manager Nigel Pearson has been suspended by the club and will not be in charge of the team for Tuesday's Championship match at Cardiff City.
Assistant boss Chris Powell will take control of the side.
The Rams have not won in six league matches and are third from bottom, having scored just three league goals.
"Nigel Pearson will not be carrying out his duties at Tuesday's game at the request of the club," said a statement on Derby's website.
"The club will make no further comment at this time."
Former Leicester City manager Pearson was only appointed in the summer, but Derby have only won one Championship match from nine so far this season.
Pearson openly criticised the players following Saturday's 2-1 home defeat by fellow strugglers Blackburn Rovers, saying his side were "paralysed with fear".

Difficult to know whether it's a good thing or a bad thing, as we don't know the true extent of what went on. However, teams have a habit of playing well when a manager gets sacked.

Most likely the players will be going through the motions and not put in a performance.

They are saying that it could be behavior problems from Pearson rather than results I bet the word "ostrich" was mentioned.

NIGEL PEARSON was sensationally suspended by Derby County hours before their game at Ipswich.
Rams boss Pearson found out the shock news after owner Mel Morris ordered that he was sent home from the team hotel.
Morris is now set to officially sack his manager after deciding his appointment was not working.
Wealthy Morris appointed the former Leicester City chief in the summer but results and performances have been shocking.
Pearson fell out with some players, telling them after the defeat by Blackburn that he would be staying but many of them would not.
However after Morris took a couple of days to mull over the crisis Pearson got the call and was taken out of the HQ in dramatic style.
Pearson’s blunt style has not gone down well with the dressing room and even some club staff felt the sharp end of his tongue.
Now Derby will start the hunt for a new boss, with Steve Bruce a possible target after meeting them during the summer but being overlooked.
