Queens Park Rangers owner Tony Fernandes is keen to bring former Newcastle United boss Steve McClaren to Loftus Road.

The Sun has reported that Queens Park Rangers owner Tony Fernandes is keen to bring former Newcastle United boss Steve McClaren to Loftus Road.

QPR have had a poor start to the season, currently sitting 16th in the Sky Bet Championship table and four points off the Play-Offs.

Fernandes is thought to want McClaren to work with current manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, who has struggled to meet the owner’s expectations since being appointed last season.

Steve McClaren has been out of work for six months after being sacked by Newcastle United in March.

The former England boss, who failed to qualify England for Euro 2008, has been studying business management at university.

So it is thought he would rather go into a director of football role at Loftus Road, rather than be in the dugout.

The 55-year-old has two pieces of silverware under his name as a manager; The Football League Cup in 2003/04 with Middlesbrough and the Eredivisie, Netherlands’ domestic top-division, at FC Twente in 2010.

During his time at Middlesbrough, McClaren brought Hasselbaink to the Riverside, in 2004, along with Mark Viduka.

He was also in stand at Leeds game 2weeks ago, talking to Leeds fans last week they were thinking he was being lined up to replace ginger.
