" Have we actually been that bad? "

Mon Sep 19, 2016 11:08 am

Looking at our games from a slightly optimistic/ slightly realistic view, I have to ask the question whether being bottom of the league is a tad undeserved.

Birmingam [A] - 0-0

On the face of it, especially as they now sit 5th, this looks a very decent point, and should have been 3! For large parts of the game Cardiff played well here, and the new system looked promising. Unfortunately Freddy had a shocker and missed a sitter and we only took 1 point from our first game but I was very optimistic after this game.

QPR [H] - 0-2

Looks a very poor loss, and it was, but things may have been very different here. City had just lost to Bristol Rovers and put in a shocking performance. But this was a game where City could have easily one 2 nil as we did lose 2 nil. A late set piece header and a counter attacking goal as city pressed was a sucker punch. Confidence hit.

Blackburn [H] - 2-1

Yes, it took two own goals from their center half, but we definitely deserved the three points here. We were comfortable and it only took a consolation to make the win slightly less easy. Creating chances remained a problem, however.

Fulham [A] - 2-2

We should have seen the game out and the second half performance was very impressive. How things may have been different if Freddy had scored at Brum and we had reamined resolute here. 9 points from the first 4 would have been very decent and very achievable.

Reading [H] - 0-1

A very disappointing loss but one I feel City should have took at least a point from. Late lapses in concentration and mistakes seem to have let City down, not the overall performances, so far. Confidence definitely looks to be an issue also. I feel this loss was the turning point from being slightly optimistic to looking behind us realizing things may not be looking so okay.

Norwich [A] - 3-2

Was always going to be a tough game but we missed Marshall hugely here. Again we missed chances that may have changed this game around. To score 2 looks promising, but with Marshall i feel we would have definitely took a point and if Lambert had converted one of three good chances, we could have won this game.

Preston [A] - 3-0

Here things get worrying. A shocking performance. City look limited in confidence and quality. Not much else to say. We were poor here.

Leeds [H]- 0-2

Now we sit bottom of the table following only 2 really shocking results.

Looking back at the games and results I feel we have missed Marshall massively, and if it wasn't for a lack of taking chances when we have been on top in games, we would be way above where we are now. I feel the only last two games City have looked like relegation fodder. Confidence is the major issue, we will need to grind out a win to get this confidence. The sooner this win comes the better because if we remain in this lull in form and confidence we will soon find ourselves in a dog fight. One I dont think we will cope to well with.

I will give my simple answer ONE win from NINE first team games against not even the best teams so far, says Yes we have been that bad and we are Bottom of the Championship and the position does not lie.

Don't see the need for the panic button just yet to be honest. Only the last two performances have been absolutely dire in my opinion. We definitely shouldnt be throwing in the towel yet. I would class Norwich up there with the best teams and if it wasnt for a few errors from our third choice goalkeeper last year and clear miss from Lambert, we would have got something from the game. Birmingham also look a strong outfit and could be up there with the top teams at the end. As may Fulham/QPR/Reading.

I will admit if the performances from the last two games continue beyond the next two to three games, someone/something will need to change.

Ifs, buts and maybes. A good team would recover from those setbacks and bounce back to get something out of the game.

We were incredibly lucky against Blackburn and the rest of the games we've not had that fortune. But hard work = luck and our team has been lacking in that amongst many other departments.

Been unlucky in some aswell Freds miss against Brum, Gunnars foul at Norwich which led to the third goal and Leeds getting the penalty when we were the better team I felt.

We are in the position we deserve to be in, that's the truth.

We look like, playing like and showing passion of a relegation contender right now and Trollope and the team are only to be held responsible for this.

I will admit v QPR and Leeds we was poor and they was poor but they won the battle.

Ridiculous OP from a red fan.
If's and but's and maybe's.
We are where we are because we deserve to be.

I don't normally agree with you but we have been woeful and I'm normally the positive one I just don't think Trollope is the man for us

The problem we have is we cant seem to put a full shift in for 90 mins and if we only play well in periods and dont score we will get punished as seen numerous times. Fulham for example we played well for about 15 mins the rest of the game we were very poor, if Whitts freekick had gone in we would have won that game

Let's just hope with a little bit of tweaking and abit of confidence then we can get the season back on track - maybe we can do a Sunderland and celebrate a great escape - but just once please - maybe we can do a Charlton and have a funeral?!

God knows but I'm staying optimistic- there's 111 points left to play for plus a transfer window (presuming we signed everyone on the 1st day of said window) so even after that 66 points available.

I keep hearing that guys have followed the club through worse periods, then what's the problem??
Owners, managers and players come and go - cabbage and support is forever - Wimbledon are testiment to that :bluebird:

where we are considering the teams we've played are as nearly as bad as your username :laughing6: on a real note we haven't even come across the big dogs of the league yet and played some of the worst and lost  and considering our only win come from Blackburn when our two goals come from they're player is beyond shocking.

Fred's miss against Birmingham wasn't "unlucky" - it was pure incompetence.

Connolly's foul against Leeds wasn't "unlucky" - it was absolute stupidity.

Gunnar was "fouled" on the halfway line - we still should have been able to defend properly and close the lad down before he got his shot off. Instead Morrison kept backing off almost inviting the guy to shoot.

Luck has not been much of a factor I'm afraid - more just bad performances.

We look like the Wolves team that went down 3/4 years ago. Although I do agree, if we had a bit of luck, fred scored at brum, we could be mid table. after the next 9 games is when we should really start to worry.

1. ROTHERHAM (A) - A must win game. As simple as that, we MUST beat Rotherham, they are dire. Should they beat us, I will accept that we are in more trouble than I thought. I fully expect us to go there and take 3 points. They will go down with Blackburn. (Predict - CITY WIN)

2. DERBY COUNTY (H) - Struggling massively, But are playing well, Just can not find the net. A point here could be a good or a bad result depending on which Derby turn up, they are up there with the best in the division when they show up.
(predit - DRAW)

3. BURTON ALBION (A) - As any other team in the division probably thinks, and maybe a little unfairly, as they are in the championship on merit, anything other than three points against Burton Albion is a massive failure. (Predict - CITY WIN)

4. BRISTOL CITY (H) - Sevenside Derby, live on sky, they are in good form, hopefully the club will put a good offer on to get bums on seats like at the end of last season, we will need a big crowd to rally the side here, Bristol are playing well and will bring a big support if they have no restrictions, the way things are. I can only see one winner here, and I hate to say it, but its not us. (Predict - CITY LOSS  )

5. SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY (H) - I can't see us getting anything here either, they showed their qualities against us when we were in form in the "big play off decider" in April. (Predict - CITY LOSS)

6. NOTTINGHAM FOREST (A) - This has a draw written all over it. Their league position flatters them, although they did play well at Villa on sky for a 20 minute spell, which showed great character. (Predict - CITY DRAW)

7. WIGAN ATHLETIC (H) - another MUST WIN. Nothing else will do here. They are awful. (Predict - CITY WIN)

8. NEWCASTLE UNITED (A) - Can't see anything but an absolute tanking here. (Predict - CITY LOSS)

9. HUDDERSFIELD TOWN (H) - if things continue as they are. see above. (Predict - CITY LOSS)

That would be 11 points from the next 9 games, leaving us then on 16, if we double everyone elses points from the opening 9 games, would see us sitting in 18th with 16 points which looks doom and gloomish BUT, would only leave us 8 points from the play offs. which is the absolute best I can foresee from the next nine games.

Obviously I know things are not that easy or simple, but maybe things are not going to be quite as bad as they look just yet.

I think 11 points is a reasonable estimate from these 9 games. That would leave us with 16 points from 17 games. Would need an improvement after that, an average of less than one point per game would almost certainly see us go down.

Yes, we are rubbish at the moment, only two goals scored at home in four games, (both them home goals) absolutely no pace in the team, we can't defend or score goals which is very worrying.
