Perhaps it's pressure, players are pumped up and desperate to do something at the very start, but as seen recently, the tendency is to tire out or lose composure then get punished in the final two thirds of the game.
If you were PT, would you advise players to compose from the back, spend the first 15 mins or so getting a feel for their opponent and building up more slowly, conserve energy etc?
