Cardiff City boss Paul Trollope is adamant that his rock-bottom Bluebirds can still aim high despite their wretched start to the season.

Trollope's team sit at the foot of the Championship table following the weekend home loss to Leeds, their fourth defeat on the trot.

The Head Coach remains an ebullient figure, bitterly frustrated at results but also still, it seems, enjoying working with his squad.

His vision to create a better, more professional team moving forward,playing the Cardiff way has not been affected by this dismal beginning to the campaign.

So what about the short-term? Does the current league table , which is tough for anyone associated with the Bluebirds to stomach, necessitate a scaling-back of his ambition on the field?

Trollope said: “In terms of expectation, we came in to the division knowing that it's a stronger one than last year.

"With the clubs that have come down and the spending power, for us to mount a play-off challenge would be a challenge.

"Listen, nothing changes, we're still ambitious, we want to be up that end of the table and we know that we've not made the start that anybody wanted.

“We need to be consistent in what we do to get out of this situation, and it is a difficult one. But the expectation doesn't lower, we still want to reach for the stars, but we also know that we need to get cracking pretty soon.

“If we'd have produced six, seven, eight performances like what we saw at Preston, I'd be sat in a very different position.

"The league position is obviously not anywhere near what we want but we need to show a consistency in how we work to make sure we get ourselves out of it. We're more than capable.”

Of Kadeem Harris, whose exclusion from the starting XI raised eyebrows amongst the fans, Trollope said: “Kads is making good progress, he was limited in his action last year and had loan spells in previous seasons.

"He's that type of player, he has that injection of pace and directness that stands out in our squad.

“We're not flush with a huge amount of pace. With Kads it's always getting the balance, when he starts and when he comes off the bench to make an impact, because sometimes those players do tend to make a better impact being introduced in the second half.

"He's got a pace and power that brings a different dimension to our squad, his contributions have been decent.”

He is consistent alright. Failing to get his team to score goals

Consistently poor so far this season.

No signs at all that any corner is about to be turned.

His team changes before and during matches have made no difference to the mediocrity shown by the team.

The guy is sounding more like chuckles the clown with every interview, whatever he's trying to achieve us fans arent falling for his spouting bullshit!

I'm not renowned for having a sense of humour but I must say this made me chuckle

Remember when he came , our form improved , everyone said its Slade the fossil that is holding us back. Well perhaps our form improved because Slade was getting it right and when our form dipped perhaps it was down to Trollopes coaching having the adverse effect .
No one knows but we were never anywhere near bottom of the table, with Slade , it may have been boring and defensive , but we never lost 4 on the trot and let goals in for fun.

Perhaps the club will confirm that in the brochure they send out asking us to renew our season tickets.

Although in fairness, perhaps next season if we are in League 1, a play-off place might just be a reasonable target!

But where is the problems ? Is it Tan is it Trollepe or is it the players or all three ? The club still lacks passion from the top down to the fans. But for me I really don't see things improving from top to bottom until Tan leaves.

That year in our last 9 games we lost 7 including a run of four defeats Derby, Sunderland, Sheffield Wed and Burnley, later followed by defeat in our last 3 games QPR, Hull & Ipswich.

We are now way smaller than Leicester, and at a push Huddersfield can attract a bigger fan base than we can. We are getting smaller by each season I'm afraid

Annis you are not being negative you care passionately about the state we are in. Some people refuse to acknowledge it hoping this will go away - It won't. All we are asking for is the manager and club to stop spouting shit about reaching for the stars etc just after we've been beaten by Leeds. After the Preston game was bad enough but to finish the week like this and make statements that try and paper over huge gaps takes supporters for mugs. All I want is a team that works their guts out to stop the rot and the board to acknowledge that things are not good. I read earlier on here that we have a decent side on paper. But on paper doesn't win you games. Onwards and upward as there is no lower in this league to go!
