A forum for all things Cardiff City

I know like Nooney before him Gunnar is almost untouchable on this forum but what exactly was his role yesterday ?
It appeared to me at times we were 4231 with Gunnar trying to get closer to Lambert which was sensible, except he doesn't have the technical ability to be there !!
For me he is a destructive player, but that pushes Whitts into a position that requires more mobility. If we play them together it stops Whitts shuffling the play as i believe he is scarred to pass to Gunnar in a dangerous position. We tried to play without Whitts and that was another disaster.
Shoehorning Gunnar into the team has thrown us into disarray.
For me it a 4231
Whitts & O'Keefe as the sitters
Harris Immers Pilkington as the three behind lambert

100% agree with your post. I like Gunnarson, but his form for Cardiff is nowhere near how he plays for Iceland. O'Keefe is a much better partner for Whitts and gives him a bit more freedom.

On the bench he has no legs in my opinion

Our best team (not our best players) I think would be , playing 4-2-3-1.
Amos
Peltier
Morrison
Connelly
Bennett
Whitts
O'Keefe
Harris
Immers
Pilkington
Lambert
Stick to this system and we have players who can step in, if need be.
I do not think this is a bottom of the table side. A little bit of confidence and some luck is all we need.

At the checkout in Iceland

I don't understand he is immense for his national team but completely diffrent here.

Because we don't play anything like Iceland, does he get over the half way line for them ?
Is he that good in that system that we need to build a team around him ? No
We have no other player to dictate the game to replace Whitts, so like it or not he must be a definite starter but he needs legs and basic skills with him so that must be O'Keefe.
We then need pace and mobility in front of those two.

Him and Whitts together in midfield has not worked for years but stil manager after manager persist with playing them together.

He should have left in the summer.
Is it just conuncidence that we've got worse since he got back in the side.
His ball retention and shooting is diabolical.
Yes, he works hard and can do a long throw, but that's the end of his offering, and Craig No one, on the right, waste of time.
Good work by Peltier, Richards, Connolly, Whitts, Ralls, Pilkington all wasted when the ball gets to those 2.

Yes - Trollope hasn't spotted that although that ridiculous long throw may work in international football, Championship defenders worked out years ago how to deal with it.
Just put a player in front and a player behind the one attacker Gunnarsson is aiming for.
And why don't they mix it up now and again? But no, every throw near the box is a long throw which comes to nothing.
So annoying!

Nojac that's pretty much what I've been thinking selection wise although I've been happy with Richards who I thought was good yesterday. No Fabio but seems to enjoy having a go and similar efforts with salmon leaps! Can't wait to have okeefe fit again. Be good to see what huws is capable of too

Like the look of this side

We should lobby to change the rules so he can just be used to take throw ins ..like the kickers after a touch down in American football.... Because quite frankly at club level the rest of his contribution is pretty limited
