I'm falling out of love with football..

Sat Sep 17, 2016 4:10 pm

Not just city (though they try hard to turn me off) but it just doesn't excite me any more.
Started watching city in 1977 and up til last year I'd come home miserable if we lost and delighted if won.
I even said today that I wouldn't be that excited if by miracle, we got into the premiership. Not sure what the reason is. Is it s case of been there and done it, plus FA cup final, play offs etc but I also can't be arsed to watch sky football of match of the day any more.
For the very first time I've even thought about jacking it all in but I remember the club coming through the Durban years so it's not quite reached quitting point yet. I feel very sad, as a big part of my life seems to be slipping away from me.
I hope my club can put a smile back on my face soon.

I do feel like that at times and I'm 54 years of age the mordern day game bores me at times even the champions league games I've watched this season have bored me its just the way they play these days

No wonder. Tan has abused the fans of Cardiff City with one bad decision after another!

I/We have faced some performances and results today but never has a loss really annoyed me and got to me like this, watching Trollope with his decisions today just made me question how some people like him get paid big money and get jobs like managing us and being part of the Wales set up.

The players are all mates, Barcelona played PSG 4 times one of the recent seasons due to the fkin ridiculous Champs League format, prob play in Abu Dhabi every pre-season too.

It's all become a load of shite

I feel the same. City losing used to spoil my weekend, but now it doesn't really effect me. I used to be a football fanatic and would feel gutted if I missed a live TV game. Now I can barely be arsed to watch motd. I'll always watch the City and as long as I can afford it, will always buy a season ticket, but my passion for the game is fastly disappearing. If it wasn't for my lifelong City support, I wouldn't bother with football.

This thread would not exist should we sit top of the league.

Our fans find every excuse under the sun when we are shite and all crawl back when we start doing well.

Don't worry once Trollope gets us relegated the good old days will be back. All Joking aside I know how you feel I think a lot of fans around the late 30s to 50s have had enough as even back in the day when we were really shite it was still fun just going. I'm not sure what it's going to take to bring that buzz back maybe hitting rock bottom again and building our way back up :ayatollah:

All to easy to say I don't love my club anymore and it's all tans fault. Get a grip once a bluebird always a bluebird. These are the tough times most of the older generation have been through before. It can't always be sunshine and roses. Grow a pair.

Firstly, I didn't say anything about my feelings being Tan's fault. I also said that I'd been through the Furban years so things are not that bad yet.
I suggest you read / understand what's been written before suggesting I 'grow a pair'.

You have posted close-knit to exactly how I feel. My love and enjoyment has massively reduced. Priorities in life have changed I used to put city and football above most things.

Andrew, good to see you and our mutual friend at the Leeds game

I know how you feel about the club, so for you to say what you have above I know will hurt. The sad thing is that even I sat there today in a state lethargy at the result, as if it really didn't bother me!

I actually enjoyed the game, the effort City put in and the excellent saves by Ben Amos. But there is something lacking in football as a whole right now and I am with you on that!

PS: Happy 54th next month. I know we're celebrating only a few days apart! :ayatollah:

Grow a pair??

I suggest you go to Specsavers and buy a pair, fella! Then read the OP properly and you will see he was referring to ALL football, not just Cardiff City FC ;)

Another classic example of the type of reply that we were discussing today, Chris.
Was good to see you too. I'm sure Mr M will be discussing this with you when you meet as he's getting the same feeling.

Exactly and when the fans do not care if we lose why would a millionaire player born 300 miles away care.

It's the reason why we are bottom our fans are fair weather if we were playing in the Premiership today
there would be people queuing around the block to get tickets, real fans take the rough with the smooth.

You don't have to watch it you know. If you are hankering for the old days than Caerau Ely are playing really well this season, you could even watch Cardiff Met in the Welsh premier.

Well said Chris.

My concern are fans around Andrews age who are leaving in their droves (and have already left) but who are going to replace them especially if we stay struggling for a few years?
The youngsters wil leave due to boredom. I think this has already been shown by the lack of younger guys at away games amongst all the grey hairs!

Football in general has never been in a better state.Or better to watch.

I know some on here are just looking for excuses not to watch us and that's understandable
due to the way we play, but you ask a Man City,Everton,Liverpool,Tottenham fan and to a man they
will say they are loving every minute of present day football, when they do have a fall from grace they
will come out and say "I do not like football any more" like our "fans" are currently saying.

Tottenham in the week attracted 85000 for a champions league game, the last week alone we have had
3 superb Premier league games, the Premier league is attracting some of the best players in the world.

The problem is the gap between the Premiership and the rest is extreme with the huge
increase in TV money, even the bottom team this season gets over £100million with almost the same again in parachute
payments.

Thanks, Paul

I think a lot of it (maybe particularly so at the CCS currently) is the disassociation between owners, players and fans. Youngsters have so much choice these days and the loyalties our generation had are far less common. That's not knocking them. It's just how lucky they are

Choice is king and if the product isn't there, they'll walk away without a thought. The club (not just Tan but the likes of Wayne Nash and other petty minded decision makers who hide between what are pretty flexible guidance lines when you read them) need to consider that when imposing their 'easy option' rules on those that pay to watch! :ayatollah:

I have moved back to the Ninian this season from the family stand and forgot how old our fans in that stand are.

For me the problem is the lack of youth coming through the turnstiles. The kids should be making the atmosphere in the Canton, then the grumpy old "it was better in my days" farts in the Ninian join in.

Its all a bit sanitized these days, but that's the world we live in.

For you this may be right. Personally, for me modern football is nowhere near as exciting as years ago. Last season was the exception with Leicester at last breaking the dominance of the big sides. We used to think ourselves lucky that we were'nt like Scotland where you knew only one of two teams were going to win the league before the season even started. Now, we are exactly like them. Where's the fun in knowing that only three or four sides have any chance of winning the title before a ball is kicked. This season it looks like you can narrow those three or four sides down to one. The only thing that keeps the FA cup (once a great competition) half interesting is most of the top sides play their reserve teams, so at least you can still get the odd shock.
The cost of football has priced a lot of fans out of the game. The result is grounds full of corporate guests with no real interest in football. Half the time there is more atmosphere at Old Trafford's cricket ground than the football ground.
The days such as when non league Hereford can knock out top flight Newcastle playing their best team, out of the FA cup have long gone, and for me, so has a lot of the excitement that I used to get from this game.
