' BEN WILSON? '

DOES TROLLOPE REALLY RATE HIM OR IS HE SAYING THIS BECAUSE HE HAD NO OTHER CHOICE BUT TO SELL MARSHALL AND MOORE?

Is Ben Wilson ready to be a No.1?

By Chris Wathan

Wednesday 14th September 2016

Paul Trollope Rates Ben Wilson highly.

But Wilson had a difficult evening at Preston and Norwich in the Cardiff goal

Before City's game at Norwich, Trollope sung the plaudits of the goalkeeper who was third in line at Cardiff City Stadium last season and claimed he had been impressed with his progress.

With the respected Martyn Margetson still goalkeeping coach at the club despite also joining the England ranks, you would assume there has been enough evidence on the training field to give the rookie a chance.

Yet, according to damning statistics, Wilson has conceded more goals than he has made stops in the three games he has played in the wake of David Marshall's departure.

It will not help playing behind an unsteady defence and Trollope will have to be wary of delivering a major blow to Wilson's confidence, but it must be asked whether Ben Amos – only two years older but with 100 or so extra league games as experience – has to be looked at for Leeds.

If he does rate him highly then he must be seeing something in training that we're missing.

He needs to be taken out of the first team for a while if for no other reason than to prevent him completely losing confidence.

As an aside, I wonder what Margetson actually does?

With Marshall and now Wilson he should have spent 95% of every training session practicing coming for crosses and dealing with high balls under pressure.

Is it a coincidence that most of our keepers are prone to flapping at crosses and are unable or unwilling to command their penalty area?

Still, it'll be good enough for England I suppose! ;)

I find it unbelievable that Dalman said "we sold Moore because we didn't see the sale of Marshall coming". I think we all saw the potential transfer of Marshall coming so that is unreal talk from the chairman. Wilson isn't good enough in my opinion. I wasn't overly impressed by him at development level so using him in these games seems outrageous. I'm not saying he won't be good enough one day but I'm not sold. Selling Marshall was a watershed moment that could prove key in our progress this season. At the very least he'll be the difference between five places. Where those five places are in the table, we'll see.

What do you do?
Take him off the field to protect him and build on what little confidence he must have left
Or
Keep him there to break through it and become better and stronger for it.

Both situations could develop him or both could destroy him.
I dont know the guy so no idea what his personality he has. Trollope and Margetson work with him every day, they know holim better than anyone on this forum.

Personally I would pick Amos for Saturday's game we need to start stabilising the back 5/6

He's 24, it's not like he's a 19 year old just breaking through.

If he can't cope at this ;level now he never will.

If Dalman did'nt see the sale of Marshall coming, perhaps he should join this forum, Most of us saw it coming. In truth, you can't believe a word of the spin that comes from those who run the club unless you are beyond gullible.

When have you seen Amos play to make that call
How many goals you putting down to Wilson rather than our defenders

Re: ' BEN WILSON? '

The problem is that we have been so used to the high standards set by Marshall that any goalkeeper who replaces him will seem like crap
Three of the goals that Wilson has conceded Marshall would have saved
If any of you have been thinking how many points we will get this season then take off at least 15 points
That's how much Marshall was worth to us
I think it's one of the clubs biggest mistakes to let Marshall go
They should have offered him an improved contract in recognition of his
loyalty
Marshall would have been more than happy to stay
He's in the top ten of goalkeepers in the country
Any other goalkeeper we have will seem very ordinary compared to him

Maybe Jeromes and the first goal last night but only saw quick replays, don't know anything about Amos.

Selling our first and second choice keepers were shocking decisions

Marshall openly said I'm happy to stay at Cardiff yet the club still sell him

Marshall is gone. Nothing Wilson can do about it. With a bit support, he might rise to the accation. A shaky start to the season, but offer some support. He is what we got. Look at Joe Hart's debute, or the fella replacing him.. not the best of times neither of them..

We can't just keep forgetting about everyone and keep moving on, we as fans have a right to debate/talk about our star players being sold.

We should be allowed our opinions not made to shut up and move on,thats what this forum is about opinions/beliefs etc :thumbright: :ayatollah: :bluescarf: :bluebird:

Yes but I know a lot more about him than you think, very arrogant at Wimbledon No Respect for fans and I also know someone very close to him, not a good attitude, but forget that, for me he should not be our NO 1 goalie and thats my belief,he's not a kid either.

LAST NIGHTS GOALS

We were awful, Wilson was awful with one maybe two of their goals.,but also many mistakes by the rest of the team.

Wilson did make two fairly decent saves :ayatollah:

Agree. He treated the wimbeldon fans badly. But can't blame him for other than the first goal. Should have knocked it, didn't. He is what we got. Selling Marshall and Fabs for pocket change was redicoulous, but that's not Wilsons fault. Who was number 4 in the highlights? Now, that's shit!

Ive watched many matches and when he was at man utd Amos has more experience and he was highly rated at man utd. Wilson had his chance and proved he's not ready

I think blaming Wilson is very harsh we want to encourage youngsters yet attack them when they make mistakes however last night he made some good saves and if he didn't the score could have been more embarrassing he was to blame for the first goal but Marshal made mistakes and he is experienced and so does some of the best keepers .

As supporters we want to give the youngsters a chance then we have to give them a proper chance, this was why managers don't always play youngsters as they make mistakes and supporters are to harsh.

Didn't want to be a bench warmer! Rather play than sit, personally I prefer that in a player

I was really critical of Wilson after the Norwich game and although he was terrible again yesterday I feel sorry for him. He's been chucked in the deep end, and his confidence must be shot. I'm not sure how good Amos is but it would be worth giving him a go. The club will really regret the sale of our best goalkeeper and backup.

Agree, Annis and it wasn't so long ago that the same people were saying how good Ben Wilson was and how he should be Marshall's full-time back-up! Like other new players, it will take a little time to find his feet in the CCS limelight but I am sure he will get there!

We lost a great keeper in David Marshall and we are not in a position as a forward-thinking/ambitious club to attract someone of a similar standard at this time, so we have to go with what we've got and try not to crucify them before they've even had a real chance to establish themselves

Cardiff City FC are a club whose priority is currently trimming the finances (I think most agree with that 'priority' stance) and it appears that will have a detrimental affect on the playing side at least for the moment. We, the paying supporters, can only hope that once these are sorted out, the club's leaders will start actioning real plans for the club to once again move forward

Like you, as fans of more years than we really want to admit to, we've seen it all before, so we won't be holding our breath, eh?! ;) :laughing6:
