Trollope guilty of doing a slade

Imo Trollope at the moment is making exactly the same mistakes as Slade in choosing a system regardless of whether suits the players.

Last season and the season before Slade stuck to a 4-4-2 when with the players at his disposal the 4-3-3 or 3-5-2 would have been better suited to the players. The two full backs at the time Fabio and Malone would arguably have been better suited as wing backs as they were far better players going forwards than backwards. We also still possessed 4 pretty good center backs who could have slotted into a 3 at the back, and Peltier also coverineg this position. Whitts would have had an extra body in the center so could have moved back inside and the balance looks better rather than a wierd lop-sided 4-4-2 highlighting our lack of pace in wide areas.

Now Trollope picks a 3-5-2 when at present it seems the players are confused and imo would be better suited to a 4-3-3. We have two conventional right backs in richards and peltier who are ok defensively but offer nothing as a wing back, or Harris playing wing back who is not a defender. Similar is happening on the other side. With 4-3-3 we can provide proper width with wide men to cross the ball into Lambert which is where his strengths lie and the make up of the squad seems to lend itself more to this system, as we have had Richards playing left wing back and noone coming on in the middle which just seems odd.

I would start with

Amos

Peltier Morrison Connolly John/Bennett if fit

Whitts Gunnar/O'Keefe if fit

Immers

Pilks/Harris (toss up) Lambert Noone

Seems much better balance to me and think players will understand jobs. Also play Noone on the left so he can hit byline and cross not cut back in and shoot from 40 yards every play too obvious.

pick the system that best fits the players not choose a system and shoe horn players into it or we could be in bigger trouble than we are.

If Trollope was doing a Slade, he would be making us organised, competitive and hard to beat. Trollope is achieving none of those things, he isn't doing a Slade at all!
