' THE CARDIFF CITY GOALKEEPING SITUATION '

' Ben Wilson and Ben Amos to compete for the Number One spot at Cardiff City this season '

Friday 9th September 2016

BY PHIL SMITH

Brian Murphy is expected to add cover and experience to the goalkeeping department

Cardiff City's three goalkeepers, Ben Wilson, Brian Murphy and Ben Amos

Brian Murphy is to be Cardiff City's third choice keeper this season, but Ben Wilson and Ben Amos both have the chance to cement their position as the Bluebirds' number one.

Trollope has said that he expects Murphy to add experience to the two younger stoppers, who will both have the opportunity to impress. Trollope, however, was impressed with Ben Wilson's showing against Reading and so he could start again against Norwich tomorrow.

The Head Coach said: "Brian’s come in as experienced cover, he’s a fantastic professional and a good goalkeeper. He’s got experience at this level, and played quite a few games in League Two last season, he’ll provide a good experienced head to work with Martyn.

"The other two are in competition for the first team slot. We had to overhaul that department but Ben Wilson’s made really good progress, Martyn’s nurtured and developed him. When it came to selling Simon, Ben’s progress was a factor in that. Amos has a good pedigree, so then it's just down to who is producing.

I hope Ben Wilson is first choice, at least initially, and given an extended run in the team.

Seems like selling Simon Moore was linked to the progress that Ben Wilson was making. Still think it a bit strange that we sold our first and second choice 'keepers in the same window. Hopefully, it will all work out.

Dalman even said CCFC sold Moore because Marshall wasn't expected to go. Poor transfer business by the club. These type of situations should be dealt with easily.
