Grumpy Moldova boss refuses to give Wales any credit in bizarre and abrupt press conference

Tuesday 6th September 2016

BY MATTHEW SOUTHCOMBE

Wales put four past Moldova as they got their 2018 World Cup qualifiers off to a flying start

Dealing with a heavy defeat is not always easy and it's something that Wales fans can relate to as much as anyone.

And there can't be many more arduous tasks for a manager than having to sit in front of a bunch of journalists and try to explain what went wrong.

But rule No.1 in the good PR manual is to always praise the opposition for being the better side, when they so clearly were.

Moldova head coach Igor Dobrovolski didn't face the trickiest questions in the book, but he seemed totally disinterested and certainly wasn't ready to give Wales any credit.

Here, in all its glory, is Dobrovolski's post-match press conference...

Question: You must be disappointed by the result, what did you make of it?

Answer: I am very disappointed because if Wales had played so much better and scored because they played so much better, I would have understood it and congratulated the team.

But they scored four times because of our own mistakes.

Q: Do you have some appreciation for a player like Gareth Bale who, in 12 minutes, changed the game?

A: He's scored. So there is no point in talking about him.

You're lucky that he is from your country. Of course, he is a good player because he is one of the top three players in the world.

Journalist: I'm not from Wales.

A: Well, he's still good.

Q: Moldova don't concede many goals, can you explain what happened tonight, why you were so poor at the back?

A: Simply because of our own mistakes and in games like this you cannot make mistakes on that level.

Q: You say it was all down to your own mistakes, what do you plan to do about that?

A: We're just going to continue what we do and I'm pretty sure that we're going to ruin the mood for some other teams.

First goal came down to an outstanding cross from Bale which players like Voke thrive on.

Second goal came from a Bale fizzling shot that lead to a corner which increased the pressure on Moldova which led to the keepr punching out into the path of Joe Allen who slotted well.

Third goal yes they can put that one down to an error, just a poor pass back.

Fourth goal we put in a dangerous cross where we had one or two attacking it and the defender pulled Bale back, mistake or not we put the pressure on the defence for them to make that mistake.

I will admit for the first 20-30 minutes we was sloppy at times and struggled to settle down, just getting back down to the start again of a new chapter which is understandable but once we got the first we got going.

He's as bitter as a lemon dipped in salt and steeped in battery acid. And he has the same name as Frankenstein's mate.

Hopefully for us he can give his team a good bollocking and they can nick some points of the other teams in the group
