This guy must think he's won the lottery big time, what a ridiculous signing. He will never sniff a championship ball. We are trying to cut the wage bill and yet he will do nothing at this club whilst getting paid.

He's probably not being paid a lot.

I was being serious with my post. Brian Murphy, is exactly what we need. A goalkeeper released from League 2 Portsmouth!
Along with Ben Amos, who Bolton fans say couldn't catch a cold and Ben Wilson, who got sent back to us from then League 2 Wimbledon for his disgusting attitude towards their fans, our goalkeeper department has never been stronger!
Forget a playoff push, with articles stating Tan is 'splashing the cash' and Ken Choo is saving us 20k per annum from the ball boys, our transfer committee can do no wrong and we must be certs for automatic promotion. Premiership, here we come!!

I agree. Who needs Lambert, or for that matter Ronaldo or Messi when we've got Murphy. I can see us being champions of Europe in three years. A truly inspired signing, and I imagine nearly every other club is looking on in envy.

Let's hope you're right but it's only a few short seasons ago that we ended up relying on Steven Bywater

He was signed by Portsmouth in August 2015 until January 2016. They then extended his contract to the end of the season.
He is a cheap 3rd keeper - and unlikely to ever be needed. I doubt he will be with us for long (maybe until the next window?)
The main question is whether Amos/Wilson will be good enough with better coaching and more match time. The goalkeeping team is definitely much weaker than at the start of the summer - but I hope one or both of them step up and surprise us all.

I thought it was a bizarre signing myself at first and couldn't work it out as I felt the DVP guy would have been an able 3rd choice but I kind of understand it now due to the emergency loan window being scrapped, to be absolutely cautious Clubs need 4 keepers on the books now realy, in the event two of their keepers were out injured, lots of clubs would still want 2 more, one to play one for the bench.
It's a circumstance that probably wont happen but you need to be covered I suppose.

Yeah a real strange signing, an inexperienced goalkeeper in Ben Wilson who hasn't even played 20 games and a loan keeper who I don't really trust since the days of Bywater so having someone who does have some experience on permanent basis is a good thing.
Good signing and was needed, think some of our supporters need to keep on track with the club.

When it looked like a possible move back to the SSE Airtricity League of Ireland was on the cards for Waterford native Brian Murphy, who looked set to join Premier champions Dundalk, there was a final twist on Friday afternoon last.
The 33-year-old goalkeeper, who played with Portsmouth last season, put pen to paper on a two-year contract with English Championship Club Cardiff City after their number one keeper David Marshall went to Hull City on transfer deadline day.
After playing with Manchester City, Swansea City, Bohemians, Ipswich Town, Queens Park Rangers and Portsmouth, it did look likely that Murphy would make a return to Ireland to join Stephen Kenny’s Dundalk but instead he decided on a move to the Bluebirds.
DELIGHTED WITH MOVE
Speaking on his move to Cardiff City, Brian Murphy said, “I’m delighted that everything has been sorted because I had a lot of offers but this could possibly be my last major move and I had to make sure it was the correct one.
“It’s been a pretty long close season to be honest trying to sort things out but now it’s all completed and I cannot wait to start playing again. I’m used to working hard and that’s what I’ll do. Hopefully we’ll push each other every day and when it comes to Saturday, you get what you deserve.”
Brian also explained some prior links he has with the Bluebirds, including his friendship with City legend, Stephen McPhail. “I’ve met a couple of the guys already,” he continued. “I know Conns [Matthew Connolly] from QPR a few years ago, and I’m sure over the next few days I’ll get to know them.
“I know Macca through the Irish connection too. He’s a great lad; he’s back playing in Ireland now and I think he’s going into coaching. What he’s come through over the last few years, and come out the better, has been great and he’s a bit of a legend here, I believe! I’m sure I’ll get in contact with him and find out a bit about Cardiff.”

I just noticed that Norwich have also signed a goalkeeper released by Portsmouth this summer - Paul Jones.
