INTERESTING TRANSFER DEADLINE 'TEAM OF THE DAY'

Friday 2nd September 2016

The Football League have produced a Team of Deadline Day to make what they believe could be the best signings made on the final day of the summer transfer window.

With the Football League contributing £150million in transfer deals as football more than broke the £1billion mark this year, here's the EFL's stand out signings from Wednesday.

'One of the last signings of the window. Rickie Lambert, a part of England`s World Cup 2014 squad, sealed a switch from Cardiff to West Brom. An established EFL striker, he was at his most prolific when he helped Southampton climb back to the top flight, scoring 106 goals in 207 appearances in the league. The 34-year old then had disappointing spells with Liverpool and the Baggies but will set his sights on rediscovering his goalscoring touch with the Bluebirds.'

I don't remember the Football League doing this last year, but it could well have been missed, and yes there are some semi surprising transfers in their 'team' selection, and making it a team of deadline day does mean it naturally misses out on those deals earlier in the summer where fans will think they've got a good shout at having the 'deal' of the window on their books now.

And whilst some of the names below could well be key for their new sides in the remainder of 2016/17, I'm not sure it contains what will be looked at as the 'stand out signing' come next May, as other deals come to my mind, as they probably do yours.

Full Team:

Dean Lyness (Burton to Blackpool)

Marnick Vermijl (Sheff W to Preston)
Charlie Mulgrew (Celtic to Blackburn)
Rico Henry (Walsall to Brentford)
Richard Stearman (Fulham to Wolves)

George Moncur (Barnsley to Peterborough)
Hunan O'Kane (Bournemouth to Leeds)
Albert Adomah (Middlesbrough to Villa)
Sammy Ameobi (Newcastle to Bolton)

Chris Martin (Derby to Fulham)
Rickie Lambert (WBA to Cardiff)

Me neither, Paul :o

The list came from the 'official' Football League site, apparently :ayatollah:
