A forum for all things Cardiff City

Getting rid of a few big players is always a worry. However, I still think the club will finish mid table, which is clearly the club's ambition for this season.
Now that all transfers in and out are completed, what team and formation do you think would be the best for Cardiff City this season? Here's my pick.
5-3-2: 30 - GK - Ben Wilson.
 6 - RWB - Jazz Richards.
 4 - RCB - Sean Morrison.
 5 - CB - Bruno Ecuélé Manga.
16 - LCB - Matthew Connolly. (third captain)
 12 - LWB - Declan John.
 17 - RCM - Aron Gunnarsson. (captain)
 7 - CM - Peter Whittingham. (vice-captain)
 10 - LCM - Lex Immers.
 19 - RS - Rickie Lambert.
 9 - LS - Frédéric Gounongbe.
I still think this is decent team. Hopefully Rickie Lambert can get more than 10 goals for us and those goals could be vital. What team and formation would you like to see CCFC use this season?

Manga over Connolly?
Richards?
Fred?
Really?
4-3-3
Amos; Peltier, Morrison, Connolly, Bennett/John; Huws, Whitts, Immers; Pilks, Harris, Lambert
O'Keefe in if Immers doesn't regain his form.

Swap o keefe and whitts and I would be happy with that team

Amos, Peltier, Bennett, Huws and Harris should start.
Gunnarrsson , Whittingham, Manga, Wilson, Richards and John to be left out of the OP's team.
Immers and Pilkington need to be in their proper positions to get the best out of them.

Manga and Connolly are both playing. Richards and Fred have both started so I can't see them changing. Trollope will most likely play 5-3-2 this season also.

Good to be arguing. Shows we have options. And pretty strong ones at that! I think John and Harris should be used in more open/winnable games as they're more like wingers. Bennett and Jazz more defensive. Those positional picks are the key ones in how we end up playing.
Here's our options, safe for a good mid table finish I'd say.
Amos/Wilson
3 of Connolly/Manga/Morrison/Peltier
John/Harris/Bennett/Richards
Whitts/Ralls/Huws/Okeefe/Gunnarson
Immers/Pilks/Noone
Lambert (the only real option here)/Fred/Zohore

.................Wilson/Amos ?
Peltier Manga Morrison Bennett
...........Gunnar Ralls
Pilks.........Immers...........Whitts
...............Lambert
Drop the Wales formation. Gunnar sits with Ralls & Whitts interchanging whenever they see the need. Three quality touch players in attacking midfield roles all can pick a pass and take their opportunities when they arise. A no tossing around back four with Manga the distributor. Always need a big ugly one there, so its Morrison. The full backs are full backs but no pace at all in that team

No, just my opinion !! John isn't good enough and I'd want to see Kadeem a bit more but I think as a wing back he will struggle, particularly away from home, defensively.
It's quite encouraging that we even have options to disagree !!

We don't play 532 we play with two holding midfielders and two 10's... More like 5221 or 3421

Kadeem copes better defensively than Richards IMO if we are playing 5-3-2 for the season which it's sure looks like we are going to be then the wingback need pace Richards is not a wingback he's a fullback.
Wilson
Harris Manga Morrisson Conolly John
Whitts Gunner Immers
Pilks Lambert

lots of options now 4-2-3-1.
Amos/Wilson (no idea who is better)
peltier/Richards Manga/Connolly Morrison Bennett/John
O'Keefe/Gunnar(prefer o'keefe as more mobile) Whitts/Ralls
Harris/Kennedy Immers/Huws Pilks/Noone
Lambert/Fred
Many of these players can play in diff positions too e.g. pilks attacking midfield, Huws defensive midfield.
5-3-2, 3-5-2
Amos/Wilson
Manga/Peltier Morrison Connolly
Harris/Richards bennett/John
O'Keefe/Gunnar Huws/Ralls/Whitts
Immers/Huws
Lambert/Fred Pilks/Immers
Amazing what a signing can do as just having one hopefully reliable striker has opened up loads more options

Agree with Norman ^, effectively we've got two 4-2-3-1 options.
Maybe play Peltier and Bennett in tougher games, as Richards/John are more attacking.

Agree, Peltier and Bennett could be used more for tougher games, or away from home to grind out a result. We now have a few players that can play a number of positions giving us plenty of options

Reading played 4-2-3-1 with Vydra up front pretty much the full season. A proven goalscorer in the Championship! They ended up 17th.
4-2-3-1 is the modern "successful" football formation. Is doesn't always work. We have to try something different.
